Agilent Technologies' Communications EDA Software Upgrade Offers Microwave Designers Most Complete MMIC Design Flow

Agilent's Comprehensive Design Solution Endorsed by Industry Leaders

PALO ALTO, Calif., Feb. 18, 2003 -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today introduced the Agilent Advanced Design System 2003A, a new version of its communications electronic design automation (EDA) software. ADS 2003A helps microwave engineers improve productivity by offering the industry's most complete front-to-back MMIC design flow solution.

"Agilent's Advanced Design System is the most commonly used simulation environment among our customer base," said Paul Litzenberg, applications engineering manager of Foundry Services at TriQuint Semiconductor. "TriQuint provides ADS design kits for our GaAs IC processes, including TQTRx, TQHBT, and TQHiP. We are pleased to be working with Agilent to further improve and expand the functionality of these design kits."

"ADS is the accepted industry standard for the design of Microwave circuitry, especially for integrated circuits," said Johannes Borkes, department head of Integrated Circuits and Systems at IMST GmbH, Germany. "Its open platform, which allows the addition of 'user defined models,' provides a large degree of flexibility. Our cooperation with Agilent enables us to embed our model and design libraries seamlessly into the ADS software."

ADS provides engineers creating microwave designs with an integrated environment for schematic capture, simulation, analysis, and layout as well as connected solutions with Agilent instrumentation. ADS 2003A delivers new modeling technology, design kit infrastructure support, and physical design capabilities that provide new and existing ADS customers with more options for an MMIC physical design flow. Five new products give MMIC designers more solution scalability choices without compromising upgradeability. ADS 2003A's new products include the following:

o The Agilent Physical Designer Pro and Physical Designer Premier suites, which upgrade an ADS customers' MMIC front-end design flow with physical design capabilities, include layout, design rule checker (DRC), and artwork translator capabilities. The Physical Designer Premier suite also includes Agilent's Momentum EM (electro-magnetic) analysis and design tools.

o The Agilent MMIC Designer Pro and MMIC Designer Premier suites, which provide comprehensive front-to-back MMIC design flow capabilities for new ADS customers, offer a schematic and layout design environment, circuit and EM simulators, analysis capabilities and a GDSII translator. The MMIC Designer Premier suite also includes new advanced passive modeling technology, the Passive Circuit Design Guide, statistical analysis, DRC and a full complement of artwork translators.

o The Agilent Momentum EM Bundle, which adds EM verification to an existing layout-only physical design flow, includes Agilent's ADS EM simulation, optimization and visualization technologies.

"Microwave designers are the core of our business," said Joe Civello, ADS platform manager for Agilent EEsof EDA. "We are continuing to provide products and solutions that large or small companies can start and grow with, allowing them to maximize the return on their MMIC EDA investment."

Agilent ADS 2003A supports the following operating systems: Microsoft® Windows® NT 4.0/2000/XP, HP-UX 11.0, and Sun(tm) Solaris 7/8/9.

Agilent ADS 2003A will debut at the Wireless System Design Conference and Expo in Agilent's booth no. 816, Feb. 25-27, 2003.
