Sitel Launches First Single-Chip DECT/CAT-iq Solution in Mass Production

SC14480 powers new range of Panasonic DECT phones

Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, June 18, 2008 - SiTel Semiconductor today announced the release of the company's SC14480. Combining radio and baseband functionality, the SC14480 is the first single-chip DECT / CAT-iq solution to enter full-scale production. Among the first products to feature the chip are Panasonic's KX-TG7300 / 8300 series DECT cordless phones, released earlier this year.

The world's first monolithic integrated DECT/DCT solution in standard CMOS, the SC14480 is the initial device in SiTel's single-chip product family. As the most flexible member, it comes with Flash memory. This makes it ideal for product development, production ramp-up or in applications requiring regular software upgrades. Various ROM / RAM memory variants are also available along with an LCD driver version for the low-end segment.

The high performance Gen2DSP core provides enough processing power to run telephone answering machine voice compression, advanced ring-tones and support the superior voice quality of the CAT-iq standard. The SC14480 can operate directly from 2 battery cells and includes an integrated white LED driver to support higher voltages, reducing external component costs. Li-Ion battery support also makes the chip ideal for headset applications.

"With the release of the SC14480, we are the first manufacturer to enter high-volume production for a single-chip DECT / CAT-iq solution," said John Pol, Product Marketing Manager from SiTel. "Its complete hardware / software platform allows system manufacturers to bring exciting next-generation features to market fast."

The SC14480 provides a single platform for creating a complete range of DECT / DECT6.0 models, each with full CAT-iq support. Thanks to the IC's impressive processing power, handsets and basestations can offer 8 kHz voice enhancement and full duplex echo canceling for standard and wideband audio for the highest sound quality. The SC14480 also enables text-to-speech services and complete Midi functionality including 32 voices, wave table and FM synthesis.
