Rockwell Announces Allen-Bradley PowerFlex DC Drives

MILWAUKEE, Oct. 25, 2007 - The new Allen-Bradley PowerFlex DC drives from Rockwell Automation combine the powerful performance capabilities of DC technology with the added benefits of digital control, diagnostics, easy programming and system integration through the flexible communication options inherent in the PowerFlex drive architecture. The rugged, compact design of the PowerFlex DC drives make them ideal for a variety of demanding standalone or coordinated drive control and drive system applications.

Available in 1.5 hp to 150 hp @ 230Vac and 2 hp to 400 hp @ 460Vac, the PowerFlex DC drives feature extensive analog and digital I/O options for flexible installation while the PowerFlex drive peripheral interface (DPI) allows easy connectivity to a variety of communication adapters and programming tools. Regenerative and non-regenerative DC drive configurations are available.

The PowerFlex DC drives feature an LCD human interface module which helps simplify drive configuration and tuning, while pull-apart control terminal blocks allow for easy wiring and quick disconnect.

Software connectivity through PowerFlex DPI allows connectivity to a common set of DPI-based host products, including communication adaptors, operator interfaces and software tools. DC tachometer and encoder feedback capabilities are embedded into the control circuitry as a standard feature, which helps save space and provide for enhanced functionality.

The PowerFlex DC drives offer extensive diagnostics and are easily interfaced for integration into larger drive systems. Users can easily program, monitor and control the drives using Allen-Bradley DriveExplorer and DriveTools SP software suite.

For applications requiring DC drives mounted on a wall, an existing cabinet or in MCC cabinets, the PowerFlex DC drives are available in preconfigured packages to meet a wide range of application requirements. Drive enclosures can be sized and designed to meet most IP/NEMA/UL protection requirements. Detailed product wiring documentation and consistent panel/component layouts allow for faster troubleshooting and start-up, and lower installation costs.

Like all products in the PowerFlex family, the PowerFlex DC drives feature internal communication options to help users assemble highly integrated applications in a cost-effective manner. Network connectivity options include DeviceNet, ControlNet and EtherNet/IP, allowing users to seamlessly integrate their complete data and easily manage information from the plant floor to the top floor.

"Users across a wide sector of industries continue to rely on the simplicity and reliability that DC technology delivers," said David Glaser, senior product marketing specialist, Rockwell Automation. "With the PowerFlex DC drives, users can continue to maximize their investments in machinery already powered by DC motors while upgrading to more advanced capabilities. The commonality of features and functions are designed to add years of useful service, increased efficiency and provide for better reliability."
