Surface mount and through hole converters are offered with choice of 2 input voltage ranges: nominal 24 V input devices accommodate voltages from 18-36 V, while nominal 48 V input parts accept voltages from 36-75 V. Output voltage options are 1.8, 2.5, and 3.3 V. Each converter is capable of operating to zero load.

Original Press Release:

Single Output DC/DC Converters Use Synchronous Rectifier Technology to Deliver Low Voltage, 6A Outputs

Isolated converters offer high levels of built-in protection and flexible mounting options

March 7, 2005, Austin, Texas - C&D Technologies (NYSE: CHP) has launched a range of highly integrated single-output, isolated converters with output currents of 6A and output voltages down to 1.8V. Available in three different, industry standard pin patterns, the NPX20 series delivers high levels of flexibility and functionality to new designs and provides 'drop-in' replacement options to existing designs that need to evolve to higher currents and lower voltages.

C&D's NPX20 DC/DC surface mount and through hole converters will suit a wide variety of industrial, telecommunication, and other applications using components that require low voltage inputs. The series offers a choice of two wide input voltage ranges - nominal 24V input devices can accommodate voltages from 18V to 36V, while the nominal 48V input parts are compatible with voltages between 36V and 75V. Output voltage options are 1.8V, 2.5V and 3.3V in both cases. The rated output current of 6.0A results in output powers ranging from 10.8W to 19.8W.

The NPX20 DC/DC converters are based on a synchronous rectifier technology and are designed to meet the requirements of UL 60950. All of the devices have input-to-output isolation of 1500VDC and incorporate high levels of integrated functionality including overvoltage, overcurrent and overtemperature protection.

Each of the new converters is capable of operating to zero load. A remote on/off pin and an output trim function that allows adjustment of the output voltage by ±10% further simplifies circuit design and reduces the need for external components.

NPX20 converters can be supplied in surface mount and through hole package styles depending on the specific application requirements. Surface mount parts have dimensions of 51.2 x 25.7 x 8.5mm (2.02 x 1.01 x 0.33 inches) and through hole alternatives measure 50.4 x 25.6 x 6.0mm (1.98 x 1.00 x 0.24 inches).

The NPX20 DC/DC converters have unit pricing of under $24.00 In OEM quantities.

C&D Technologies, Inc. is a technology company that produces and markets systems for the conversion and storage of electrical power, including telecom/industrial batteries, rectifiers and electronics. This specialized focus has established the company as a leading and valued supplier of products in two major categories - reserve power systems and electronic power supplies. Corporate headquarters are in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, USA and the company is traded on the NYSE under the symbol 'CHF.

The Power Electronics Division of C&D Technologies, Inc. has its headquarters in Tucson, Arizona, USA, with manufacturing in the USA, Mexico, UK and China plus sales locations in the USA, UK, France, Germany, China and Japan. The division designs, manufactures and distributes DC/DC converters, AC/DC power supplies and magnetics, and offers these products in custom, standard and modified-standard variations. These products, which are built to exacting requirements in ISO9000:2000-approved facilities, are typically used worldwide by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) within telecommunications, computing, industrial and other high-tech applications.

In 2004 the product portfolio as well as the global design and manufacturing capabilities of the Power Electronics Division were significantly enhanced as a result of three acquisitions. In May 2004, C&D acquired UK-based Celab Limited, a designer and manufacturer of power conversion products for military, cable television and high-end telecommunications applications. In June 2004, the company acquired Datel, Inc., a US-based producer of medium-power DC/DC converters, data acquisition products and digital panel meters. In September, C&D completed the acquisition of CPS, the former Power Systems Division of Celestica, Inc., a Canadian manufacturer of DC/DC and AC/DC power supplies.
