Point-of-Use Power Processors
DATEL's new LSN-16A Series SIP (single-in-line package) DC/DC converters enable true point-of-use (point-of-load) power processing. These non-isolated power converters take commonly available on-board voltages (3.3, 5 or 12 Volts) and convert them ... with the highest efficiency ... in the smallest area ... at the lowest cost ... to virtually any lower voltage required by the ever-evolving core and I/O logic of today's current-hungry DSP's, ASIC's, CPLD's, etc.

Specifically, LSN-16A's accept 3.3/5V inputs (3-5.5V range for "W3" models) or 12V inputs (10-14V range for "D12" models) and deliver 0.75/1/1.2/1.5/1.8/2/2.5/3.3/5V outputs fully rated at 16 Amps. LSN-16A's fixed-frequency (220/300kHz), synchronous buck topologies deliver conversion efficiencies as high as 96% with output noise as low as 30mVp-p. Their standard SIP packages (2" x 0.5" x 0.36", 50.8 x 12.7 x 9.14mm) are offered in either vertical or horizontal orientations. The former occupies a mere 0.72 square inches. The latter is a mere 0.36 inches high. Prices start at less than "a buck an Amp."

SIP's Are Here to Stay
The latest advancement in distributed power, the most cost-effective multi-voltage, high-current power delivery to date, consists of isolated 12V on-board buses delivering power to numerous, non-isolated point-of-load (POL) converters (which develop all the terminal voltages and currents). Because there are typically many POL's in these new intermediate bus architectures (IBA's), standardizing POL packaging and functionality has become an industry priority.

Over the past few years, the 10-pin SIP has clearly established itself as one of two de facto POL packaging standards, and DATEL's new 16 Amp LSN Series deliver the most current and the best price/performance ratio of any standard SIP to date.

Fixed vs. Trimmable Outputs
LSN-16A Series SIP's offer both fixed and user-programmable output voltages. The fixed outputs (1.8VOUT, 2.5VOUT, etc.) are factory-trimmed by DATEL. They guarantee ±1.25% unadjusted output accuracy, and their compensation schemes have been optimized for their individual VOUT'S. Consequently, each model has the highest efficiency, lowest noise and quickest step response.

Additionally, for each input range (D12 and W3), LSN-16A's offer an ultra-wide-trim "T" model whose output is user-selectable (0.75-5V) with a single external resistor. These devices offer the outstanding economy of DATEL assembling and users purchasing, in higher quantities, a single device.

Plug-and-Play Convenience
LSN-16A's are true "plug-and-play" power converters enabling system configuration literally in minutes. In most applications, LSN's require no external I/O filtering to achieve either specified noise levels or FCC-compliant radiated/conducted emissions. LSN's are designed with on-board input/output caps fully rated to handle the necessary input ripple current and fully capable of reducing output noise to specified levels. Their high efficiencies obviate the need for heat sinks and/or supplemental air flow, and all units operate without derating to at least +53°C in still air.

Lead-Free
LSN-16A Series DC/DC's fall under the DATEL Lead-Free Initiative. This program eliminates all lead from our printed-circuit boards (pcb's) and from our assembly and pinning processes. LSN-16A pcb's have an electroless nickel/immersion gold (ENIG) finish, and the package's 30 mil round pins are tin-plated copper.

LSN-16A Features
The LSN feature set includes output overcurrent detection, continuous short-circuit protection, ±10% output-voltage trim, remote on/off control, output sense pins, optional vertical or horizontal package orientation, and optional "reverse" pinning (for Tyco compatibility). Units are stable under no-load conditions (for load circuits going into "sleep" mode), and have the ability to start-up monotonically and operate without incident into pre-biased loads. All models are UL/EN60950 certified and EMI/EMC compliant.

Price and Delivery
In small quantities, LSN-16A Series POL DC/DC's are priced at $25.10 (USA) each. In OEM quantities, LSN-16A pricing rapidly drops to $14.95 each (10k pieces, USA)... less than "a buck an Amp!" Free sample/evaluation units (for qualified OEM's), eval boards, and small purchased quantities (<25 pieces) are immediately available from stock. Production quantities require 6-8 weeks.

Order @ Web Site
DATEL, Inc. pioneered e-commerce capabilities for DC/DC converters at our web site at www.datel.com. Today, small quantities of LSN-16A SIP POL DC/DC's (or free sample/evaluation units and eval boards) can be ordered directly from the site using credit cards.
