Wide Input, 3W Single Output DC/DC Converters Provide High Functionality from Minimum Space

Converters deliver stable outputs across wide variety of load, input and temperature conditions

o Ideal for industrial, control and telecommunications applications

o Excellent regulation and short circuit protection

o Small size and low profile for dense applications

o Delivers full output power up to 85°C ambient

October 6th, 2005, Tucson, Arizona - C&D Technologies (NYSE: CHP) has introduced a new range of high functionality DC/DC converters with single isolated 3W outputs. The new NDTS devices accommodate a 2:1 wide input voltage range and short circuit protection within a small low profile package, making them ideal for high-density applications. Excellent load regulation ensures that outputs remain stable with changes in load and input voltage, while the ability to deliver 3W output power at temperatures up to 85°C eliminates the need for heatsinking in most applications.

Converters in the NDTS series have a voltage set point accuracy of +/- 1% with external capacitors. Nominal input voltage options are 24V and 48V, with respective input ranges of 18-36V and 36-72V. The 24V devices are well suited to industrial and control applications and the 48V parts are ideal for telecommunication designs.

Output voltage options are 3.3V, 5V, 12V and 15V for each nominal input voltage. In all cases, isolation between the input and output is rated at 1kVDC. Typical line and load regulation are rated at 0.15% and 0.1% respectively. A flyback oscillator with isolated feedback gives regulation over the operating load range with connection pins formed from a tin-plated alloy 42 leadframe. Integrated short circuit protection minimises the need for external protection electronics.

NDTS converters feature an internal SMD construction, and are supplied fully encapsulated in industry standard 24 pin packages with a footprint and height of just 4.73cm² and 7mm respectively. Encapsulate and case material are UL 94V-0-rated.
NDTS samples are available now and volume lead time is currently 8 weeks. Pricing for series is below $11 per unit in OEM quantities.

C&D Technologies, Inc. is a technology company that produces and markets systems for the conversion and storage of electrical power, including telecom/industrial batteries, rectifiers and electronics. This specialised focus has established the company as a leading and valued supplier of products in two major categories - reserve power systems and electronic power supplies. Corporate headquarters are in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, USA and the company is traded on the NYSE under the symbol 'CHP'.

The Power Electronics Division of C&D Technologies, Inc. has its headquarters in Tucson, Arizona, USA, with manufacturing in USA, Mexico, UK and China plus sales locations in the USA, UK, France, Germany, China and Japan. The division designs, manufactures and distributes DC/DC converters, AC/DC power supplies and magnetics, and offers these products in custom, standard and modified-standard variations. These products, which are built to exacting requirements in ISO9000:2000-approved facilities, are typically used worldwide by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) within telecommunications, computing, industrial and other high-tech applications.

In 2004 the product portfolio as well as the global design and manufacturing capabilities of the Power Electronics Division were significantly enhanced as a result of three key acquisitions. In May 2004, C&D acquired UK-based Celab Limited, a designer and manufacturer of power conversion products for military, cable television and high-end telecommunications applications. In June 2004, the company acquired Datel, Inc., a US-based producer of medium-power DC/DC converters, data acquisition products and digital panel meters. In September, C&D completed the acquisition of CPS, the former Power Systems Division of Celestica, Inc., a Canadian manufacturer of DC/DC and AC/DC power supplies.
