Sipex Introduces New 900kHz Addition to the PowerBlox(TM) Family

SP7651 is the fourth in a series of high efficiency, high current, high voltage step down buck regulators offered by Sipex

(Milpitas, CA - August 31, 2004) - Sipex Corporation (NASDAQ: SIPX), a leading supplier of high performance, analog integrated circuits (ICs), today announced the SP7651. This new member of the Sipex PowerBlox(TM) family of high current, high voltage, ultra-miniature DC/DC buck regulators offers the highest frequency in the family, 900kHz. This high frequency operation, combined with a very wide input voltage range of 2.5V - 20V, makes the SP7651 an ideal solution in cable modems, set top boxes, plasma TVs, LCD monitors and routers.

This 3A step-down regulator is capable of handling up to 20V input and delivering output voltages as low as 0.8V. By integrating low resistance switches, the SP7651 delivers very high efficiencies, up to 92%, over a wide output voltage range of 0.8V to 20V. Other device features include programmable soft start, over-temperature protection, dual under-voltage lock-out (UVLO) thresholds, and short circuit protection.

"In addition to its already small footprint, the SP7651 enables very small external components due to its high frequency performance," said Kevin Plouse, senior vice president of marketing and business development at Sipex. "System designers will be able to create small form factor power supply designs or add more capability within the same amount of PC board space."

Pricing and Availability
The SP7651 is available now in a 7mm x 4mm DFN package with three independent heat sinks. Samples are also available to help in the evaluation of the device. Pricing for the SP7651 begins at $2.40 in 10,000 piece quantities. The part is rated over the industrial temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. The data sheet and additional information on the SP7651 and other Sipex product offerings may be found on the company web site at www.sipex.com.
