International Communications Group Introduces New Iridium Satellite Data and Voice System for Fast Patrol Boats

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - September 13, 2006 - International Communications Group (ICG) today announced the introduction of the new MIS-200 dual-channel Maritime Iridium Communication System, providing simultaneous over-the-horizon voice and data links for patrol and interdiction vessels.

The MIS-200 contains two L-Band Iridium transceivers, each operating independent circuit-switched connections, through a single small lightweight antenna. One transceiver is dedicated to data only, while the other provides voice communications. The data channel uses advanced compression software to achieve 10 kbps data throughput. The voice channel is tied into the captain's headset with the ability to directly dial the operation center (OPCEN) mission commanders, and also functions as an intercom link to other crew stations.

The MIS-200 serves as the critical communication link for an integrated over-the-horizon tactical asset tracking system, permitting two-way data links between the patrol craft and the OPCEN. The satellite data channel provides for continuous transmission of the vessel's position coordinates, course, speed and time-stamp, and also permits the OPCEN to input data on targets of interest directly into the vessel's navigation and guidance computer.

"The dual-channel system is designed to support simultaneous voice and data links between the patrol assets and OPCEN, providing improved situation awareness for patrol officers and an enhanced global command and control picture for mission commanders," said Ray Larkin, government and military program manager for ICG. "The system's design, with two separate voice and data circuits, ensures that they do not compete with each other and provides an uninterrupted data flow."
