AirMessenger Store Helps Operators Lower Infrastructure Costs, While Enabling Practical Network Scalability

Latest element of the Airwide tiered Fusion architecture to facilitate intelligent storage and delivery of mobile messages

READING, England and BURLINGTON, Mass., March 27 /- Mobile operators can now reduce both operating and capital infrastructure costs while better managing messaging traffic thanks to AirMessenger Store, a modular storage system announced today by Airwide Solutions. An independently scalable storage device, AirMessenger Store completes the componentization of the previously all-in-one short message service center (SMSC) as part of the Airwide next-generation Fusion messaging architecture.

Already successfully implemented in operator networks, AirMessenger Store is the only modular storage system that reduces operators' capital expenditures by enabling them to buy only the storage capacity they need when they need it. This approach can also cut operating expenses by decreasing the number of systems that require management and support on an ongoing basis.

Intelligent storage and delivery
AirMessenger Store provides the foundation for a converged message store with a combined archive on the network that can support multiple messaging types. AirMessenger Store will provide intelligent delivery of stored messages as subscribers become available, ensuring that messages are delivered as rapidly as possible and that recipients receive messages when, where and how they want them. When combined with previously announced AirMessenger Router, Air Messenger Store can dynamically manage message storage, based on network congestion and message peaks.

Designed according to the Fusion principles of extensibility and re-use, AirMessenger Store is well positioned to store multimedia, mobile instant messaging (MIM), email messages and other message types. It also enables subscribers to access all messages they've sent or received in one location.

Eliminate surplus capacity, support multiple messaging types
Traditional monolithic infrastructures require operators to spend millions of dollars on all-in-one message centers that include an inflexible mix of storage, access and delivery, and control capacity. Instead, AirMessenger Store provides a non-disruptive approach that lets operators add storage as needed, regardless of the brand or type of other messaging technologies in their infrastructure.

"The Airwide Fusion architecture has evolved through 14 years of developing and supporting some of the most complex, high-performing mobile networks around the globe," said Vince Kadar, CTO for Airwide Solutions. "Operators today need to protect the investment they've made in their infrastructure and, without disruption, evolve those infrastructure elements into separately scalable components to drive costs down. AirMessenger Store is yet another concrete example of how the Fusion architecture can break down messaging silos and address the issues associated with those legacy systems."

AirMessenger Store also saves operators money by eliminating the cost of connecting to the network via expensive, low-throughput SS7 connections. Instead, the storage device connects to the network via high-throughput IP connections that allow operators to scale quickly and affordably.

The Airwide Fusion tiered architecture
The Airwide Fusion architecture breaks up monolithic messaging infrastructures into tiers, including: storage, access and delivery, control, and application. Airwide's evolving product portfolio addresses each of these tiers through componentized offerings that support multiple messaging types -- including the previously announced AirMessenger Router and AirGate.

Instead of building up infrastructure in each of these tiers, operators can independently scale only the areas they need, when they need to. This approach allows operators to reduce both capital and operating expenses. This is crucial at a time when impending market drivers could change storage demand and costs. For example, potential bans on cell phone use in cars could fuel significant increases in stored messages that aren't delivered while subscribers are on the road.

Pricing and Availability
AirMessenger Store is available immediately and is priced according to operator requirements.
