Data-Rite Systems, Inc. Announces Release of New Disaster Recovery Product for MS SQL Server

NEW YORK, Dec. 7 / -- Data-Rite Systems, Inc. (http://www.dataritesys.com/) today announced the introduction of DR-Synch SQL server log shipping software. DR-Synch is a disaster-recovery application that automates the backup of database and transaction log files on a production SQL server, then ships and restores them every 20 minutes onto a standby server. Should the production server fail, users can begin the failover process immediately by pointing to the standby server.

DR-Synch is unique in its offering of an automated log shipping process with a configurable user interface that monitors each log as it ships, updates its status, and notifies Administrators via email if any portion of the process fails. While basic log shipping is available with Microsoft's SQL Server 2000, DR-Synch provides additional configuration possibilities, as well as email updates of application process failures and recovery techniques.

Data-Rite's DR-Synch product eliminates the practice of Database Administrators manually handling the same actions and not being notified of failed restores, or incomplete backups.

One of the main benefits of DR-Synch is the time-configuration section of the user interface which allows Administrators to set the frequency of the log shipping process at any time interval desired. With DR-Synch, if the frequency of log shipping is set to occur every 20 minutes, and a full restore to the production server was required, the only data lost would be since the last log was shipped -- 20 minutes of live data!

Typical disaster recovery plans implemented in most organizations are reliant on nightly backups. If at the end of a business day, there was a failure on the production servers and a full restore was implemented from the previous day's data, the entire current day's data would have been lost.

President and Chief Executive Officer, Michael Feldman stated, "Our objective was to develop a user interface that provided feature configuration, email notification and live monitoring of an integral procedure everyone reliant on a production SQL server should be implementing. We designed DR-Synch with a user-friendly interface so that non-technical end users can monitor their DR enhancement procedures as well."

Business Development Director, Nicole Varady stated, "We discovered that many of our clients had implemented the standard log shipping procedure to enhance their DR procedures, only to have the process fail behind the scenes without any notification. Once the DBA investigated, they realized a log had not been shipped in weeks or in some cases, months. Our clients were solely reliant on their nightly backups without even realizing it, and were not pleased with the risk that they were exposed to."

A typical DR-Synch installation is less than $5,000, and there is no per-user licensing structure. The installation takes between 2 and 4 hours. Data-Rite will train the end Users on the easy-to-use interface at the time of installation.
