Original Press Release:

LANpoint CE.NET - New Generation of Vehicle and Stationary Data Collection Terminals

February 10, 2003, Tucson, Arizona. Intelligent Instrumentation, a Texas Instruments company, announces new
RF Vehicle and Stationary LANpoint® CE.NET data collection terminals during ProMat 2003, Booth 3122. These rugged, high-powered Windows CE.NET AutoID computers are designed for demanding manufacturing and warehouse bar code applications. Their attractive waterproof, dustproof cases easily handle dusty, dirty, or spray down environments. The new LANpoint CE.NET terminals are powered by the Intel® XScale® 400MHz RISC processor, provide non-volatile storage expandable to 500MB, have all the industrial features demanded by frontline users and IT professionals alike, and still are the lowest priced vehicle mount data collection terminals on the market today!

A 1/2 VGA display, large keys, small installation footprint, and AutoID technologies integrated into these open-architecture data collection terminals provide a modular and highly adaptable user interface. Web-enabled system administration tools, a wide range of software programmability, and a full selection of installation and accessory features and options make for unparalleled ease of implementation and system management. Having no moving parts and high quality cases, they are designed for long life in harsh industrial environments. The combination of built-in 10/100Base-T Ethernet adapter or IEEE 802.11(b) wireless Ethernet interface and the industrial design allows the LANpoint CE.NET terminals to meet a multitude of demanding data collection needs.

As the name implies, the LANpoint CE.NET terminals are based on the Windows CE.NET (Windows CE 4.1) embedded operating system. Windows CE .NET provides the familiar Windows GUI environment, offers enhanced 802.11x wireless support and security, and the functionality of an Internet Explorer 5.5 Web browser. In addition, developers can use Microsoft's free development tools for creating custom software applications.

Standard networking and utility software includes TCP/IP, SNMP, and network management provided by a Web-server application that comes loaded on every LANpoint CE.NET. In addition, all popular terminal emulation interfaces are also available - VT, HP, IBM5250, and IBM3270, and Microsoft Terminal Services Client.

The water and dust proof case seals out water spray from any angle and protects the terminals from shock and vibration - independently tested to MIL-STD-810E and SAE J 1455. The keys provide excellent tactile feedback and are large enough for easy use with gloved fingers, yet compact enough to allow a small overall footprint. The programmable function keys are visually cued to the LCD screen for use as soft-keys or menu selectors. Four LED indicators provide terminal status, and four additional LED indicators are user-definable.

The LANpoint CE.NET terminal's display is available in monochrome or color, with touch screen options. Users can use the touch screen option to launch easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI) applications without the need for an external pointing device. The 4-wire analog resistive touch screen includes hard coat and anti-glare surface treatments to make the touch screen models as tough and easy to view as the non-touch screen models. An optional display heater is available for extended temperature requirements.

The RF Vehicle and Stationary LANpoint CE.NET terminals will be available for delivery in Q2, 2003. A full line of accessories and options is available, from AutoID devices to battery backup packs and wiring installation kits. A PS/2 connector allows use of wedge readers as well as external keyboards. Three COM ports come standard on every unit. Optional digital I/O modules provide eight opto-isolated digital inputs and up to eight digital relay outputs. There is even the thoughtful addition of a 5V-power connector for 2D laser scanners and other AutoID devices. Intelligent Instrumentation provides everything necessary to get the LANpoint CE.NET terminals installed and running quickly.
