Data Collection Software includes RS232 to TCP/IP software.

Press Release Summary:

WinWedge 32 Pro collects RS232 data from laboratory instruments/devices directly into various Windows applications and includes utility programs for RS232 and TCP/IP based data collection and communications. Software incorporates TCP-Com v2.0, which exposes RS232 serial port on PC to TCP/IP port so that RS232 serial data can be sent and received across TCP/IP network. It also enables users to create Virtual COM Ports that are actually TCP/IP port connections.

Original Press Release:

WinWedge® 32 Pro to include the new TCP-Com(TM) v2.0, RS232 to TCP/IP Software

TALtech Inc is pleased to announce that it will be demonstrating the latest version of its WinWedge 32 Pro software at Pittcon 2004 in Chicago. This software will start shipping on March 9 2004, the first day of Pittcon.

WinWedge 32 Pro collects RS232 data from any laboratory instrument or device directly into Excel, Access, LIMS and other Windows applications. It is popular for collecting real-time data from balances, pH meters, sensors, gages, bar code scanners, meters and other instruments. WinWedge 32 Pro also includes many utility programs for RS232 and TCP/IP based data collection and communications. These applications solve many different data collection and communications needs.

The new WinWedge 32 Pro will include the upgraded TCP-Com software. TCP-Com was originally designed to expose an RS232 serial port on a PC to a TCP/IP port so that RS232 serial data can be sent and received across a TCP/IP network. TCP-Com Version 2.0 has been upgraded with powerful new features including the ability to create "Virtual COM Ports" that are actually TCP/IP port connections. This means that any software designed to communicate with RS232 ports can now communicate over Ethernet or Internet TCP/IP ports. TCP-Com also now has advanced error recovery features that can automatically detect and repair broken TCP/IP connections.

The ability to create virtual COM ports allows TCP-Com to be used for a number of advanced applications that were not possible before.

Now TCP-Com can be used to:

1. Turn a PC into a multi port serial device server (or Terminal Server).

2. Send or receive data over a TCP/IP port with any existing serial communications program.

3. Open COM ports located on another computer in your network as if they were locally installed COM ports.

4. Use your network or the Internet as a giant serial cable.

5. Use TCP-Com to feed data from one physical RS232 port to multiple RS232 serial communications programs.

6. Use TCP-Com to map a TCP/IP port to a different TCP/IP port.

These new capabilities in TCP-Com when combined with WinWedge's RS232 data collection capabilities offer remarkable versatility in RS232 and TCP-IP based data collection and communication. The amazing part is that all this versatility comes without the need for any programming, just very simple menu-driven set-ups in WinWedge and TCP-Com.
