Device can also utilize external power supply and comes with DAQ24Eval, which graphically displays and records data while providing key statistics.

Original Press Release:

DAQ Systems Introduces USB High-Precision Data Acquisition System

DAQ Systems today announced the newest member of the DAQ24USB digitizer family, the DAQ24USB-5V, the industry's highest performance 24-bit USB data acquisition system. The DAQ24USB-5V is and is aimed at scientific and engineering applications requiring high-precision data such as in seismology, geophysics, structural studies, and others using high-resolution sensors. The DAQ24USB-5V provides a complete data acquisition solution supporting both standalone and networked environments with full-featured Java and ANSI C applications and API libraries. In addition to four 24-bit analog input channels, DAQ24USB-5V also offers three digital input, three digital output, and three auxiliary 10-bit analog input channels. Up to sixteen DAQ24USB digitizers can be attached to a single host for a total of sixty-four 24-bit channels, twelve 10-bit auxiliary input channels, and twelve digital inputs and outputs. The DAQ24USB-5V is a USB 1.1 bus powered device but it also has the ability to utilize an external power supply (provided) which might be needed when connecting multiple devices to a single USB host using passive USB hubs.

An optional networking package provides clients for real-time display, event triggering, format conversion, browser-enabled remote access and control as well as Telnet and FTP services. OEMs and developers can use the ANSI C and Java API libraries to build their own applications but for most users no development work is necessary as the DAQ24USB comes with DAQ24Eval, a finished Java application. All of the software runs identically under Windows 2000/XP and Linux. Drivers, libraries, and applications for both operating systems are furnished. DAQ24Eval is a simple-to-use yet powerful Java application that graphically displays and records data while providing useful statistics such as mean, standard deviation, range, and minimum and maximum values. Digital I/O line states are displayed and controlled via software radio buttons. Other buttons control the display center value and amplitude. A smooth scrolling real-time display avoids the jerks common in other real-time graphical displays. The DAQ24USB-5V offers more than 130 dB of dynamic range and a software programmable internal amplifier with 8 sensitivity ranges in steps of two. For active sensors with high-level outputs a lower sensitivity range is provided. All analog inputs are fully protected from static discharge. The standard software package supports ASCII-formatted output files that are compatible with MATLAB, Excel, and many other packages. The optional network package supports many common formats such as MATLAB variable files, GSE and SEG-Y with the data conversion client working in real-time to provide the desired format. "The high level of software support and adherence to current industry standards make the DAQ24USB-5V an excellent choice for high-precision data acquisition applications" says John Rogers, Chief Engineer for Product Development at DAQ Systems. "Customers using the DAQ24USB-5V now have a powerful and convenient solution for their data acquisition problems without the limitations of legacy ports and buses such as the parallel, serial or PCI. The DAQ24USB also offers a migration path to NetDAS, an embedded data acquisition solution with built-in IP-networking, a low-power Linux PC104 CPU, GPS and Compact Flash storage". (NetDAS is manufactured by DAQ Systems). Pricing and availability The DAQ24USB-5V is available at a unit cost of 750.00 USD complete with external power supply and cables. A board only OEM version is available at 695.00 USD. The optional network package is an additional $500. All products include DAQ Systems' lifetime "speak-with-an-engineer" technical support. DAQ Systems DAQ Systems was founded in 1996 and is a leading supplier of turn-key and OEM data acquisition systems based on open industry standards and are used in geophysical, seismic, and other scientific and engineering applications throughout the world.
