Develop Flexible, Cost-Effective Optical Power Applications with National Instruments

National Instruments DAQ Software and Hardware Suitable for Design Lab and Manufacturing floor

AUSTIN,Texas - Feb. 5, 2002 - Design and production engineers now can measure the power of light in optical component alignment, manufacturing, and test in a solution that scales from the design laboratory to the manufacturing floor.

Using National Instruments LabVIEW(TM) graphical development environment with NI data acquisition (DAQ) boards and third-party optical sensors, engineers have a measurement solution that can meet both the rigorous requirements of the lab and provide the throughput and high channel count needed for the manufacturing floor. This unprecedented scalability delivers a long-term, cost-effective measurement solution.

Engineers often need to make optical power measurements to verify the operation of optical components. Now, design engineers can easily make these measurements using LabVIEW in conjunction with NI data acquisition boards, such as the NI 6052E, as well as optical sensors available from Hamamatsu, New Focus, Thermo Oriel, Thorlabs, and others. The NI 6052E data acquisition board for PCI and PXI has a 333 kS/s sampling rate, 16 analog inputs, and 16-bit resolution. With this performance, the NI-based solution easily scales to applications in production and test, such as synchronizing optical power measurements with motion to decrease alignment and assembly time. NI's real-time system integration bus (RTSI(TM)) also provides this solution through fast and easy synchronization with other kinds of measurements, including image acquisition.
