Forrest Manufacturing Introduces New Dado Sets for Cutting Thin-Width Grooves

Unique Thin Kerf Dados Produce Clean Cuts in Undersize Plywood and Man-made Materials

CLIFTON, New Jersey, June 10, 2009- Forrest Manufacturing has introduced two unique dado sets that combine the functionality of a groover with the smooth, chip-free cut of its standard Dado King to create thin clean-cut grooves in man-made materials. The new Thin Kerf Dados cut grooves from 3/16 to ¼ inches in thin plywood, MDF or melamine boards.

"Traditionally, these types of cuts would be made with a groover," explains Jay Forrest, vice president, Forrest Manufacturing. "But groovers have a number of disadvantages. Since they're wider than a normal saw blade, they're heavy, expensive, put more stress on the saw, and exhibit more inertia when starting and stopping. They also don't cut cleanly in man-made materials."

Better Function by Design
The new Thin Kerf Dados were designed in response to requests from cabinetmakers and other woodworkers who use undersize plywood, melamine and other man-made materials. They needed a better means of producing the thin grooves - generally cut along three sides - that hold backer boards in bookcases and bottoms in cabinet drawers, among other uses.

"When cutting with a dado, the chip load is divided among all the teeth on the saw blades in the set," explains Forrest. "The smaller the bite each tooth takes from the material being cut, the cleaner the cut. The multiple blades of the dado have more teeth than a groover to produce grooves without chipping or splintering."

Dado Sets for Thin Widths

Forrest's new two-piece Thin Kerf Dado set includes two, 24-tooth outside saw blades and a set of magnetic adjusting shims for 3/16-inch cuts. The new three-piece set includes the outside saw blades plus a 1/16" chipper with magnetic shims for creating cuts from 3/16 to a ¼ inch. Both sets work on table or radial arm saws with a 5/8-inch bore. Non-standards bore sizes are also available.

Precision Engineering Ensures Durability and Quality

Like all Forrest blades the Thin Kerf Dados set are made in the United States and come with a 30-day, money-back guarantee. They feature super hard corrosion-resistant C-4 micrograin carbide saw blade tips that provide up to 300 percent longer life between sharpenings. Proprietary grinding techniques and hand straightening guarantee the finest cutting edges possible coupled with exceptional perimeter concentricity, perfect plate flatness, and side runout to +/- .001".
