Dual 16-Bit Current Output DAC Provides Six Unique Software Programmable Output Ranges, ±1LSB INL & DNL

MILPITAS, CA - December 12, 2007 - Linear Technology Corporation introduces the
LTC2753-16, a dual 16-bit current output DAC capable of outputting six unique
software-programmable SoftSpan(TM) unipolar and bipolar output ranges up to ±10V. Software programmability eliminates the need for expensive precision resistors, gain stages and switching jumpers by hand. The LTC2753-16 offers accurate DC specifications, including ±1LSB (max) INL and DNL over the -40°C to +85°C industrial temperature range. Operating from a single 2.7V to 5.5V supply, this DAC draws a maximum supply current of only 1uA. The six unique SoftSpan output voltage ranges include two unipolar ranges (0V to 5V, 0V to 10V) and four bipolar ranges (±10V, ±5V, ±2.5V, -2.5V to +7.5V). With its software programmability, low power and precision DC specifications, the LTC2753-16 is ideal for ATE data acquisition modules such as PC/104.

The LTC2753-16 also offers very good AC specifications, including full-scale settling time of only 2us and low 1nVos glitch impulse. The LTC2753-16's good AC specifications are key for applications such as waveform generation. Low glitch reduces the transient voltages between code changes in the DAC. Fast settling and low glitch reduce the harmonic distortion, making it possible to produce higher frequency, lower noise output waveforms. The LTC2753-16 uses a bidirectional input/output parallel interface that allows readback of any internal register, as well as the DAC output span setting.

The LTC2753-14 and LTC2753-12 are pin-compatible 14-bit and 12-bit devices, respectively. The LTC2753-16, LTC2753-14, and LTC2753-12 are all available in 7mm x 7mm QFN-48 packages, offering a pin-compatible and code-compatible family for performance/cost optimization in the end product. For applications only requiring a single DAC, please refer to the LTC2751 16-/14-/12-bit DAC family. Both the dual LTC2753 and single LTC2751 DAC families are available today in commercial and industrial temperature ranges. Pricing begins at $5.95 each for the LTC2753-12, in 1,000-piece quantities.
