D-Subminiature Connectors have modular design.

Press Release Summary:

Right-angle, male and female, multipoint connectors, with high-current contacts, are available in 7W2 configuration. Power contacts are punched parts using SMT technology, and surface is silver-plated. Products are available in 7.3 mm mounting height. Nominal current is specified at 25 A @ 20°C for high-current contacts and 5 A @ 20°C for signal contacts. Test voltage is rated at 1,000 Veff, while creepage distances and clearances are specified at greater than 1 mm.

Right-Angle SMT D-Sub with Power Contacts Expands ERNI's D-Sub Family

San Francisco, CA (ESC/ElectronicaUSA) - March 29, 2004 - ERNI has expanded its range of D-sub connectors to include a new modular design. A variety of changes have been implemented to improve functionality and processing technology. Thanks to the modular design, it is now possible to generate virtually any number of variants at minimum expense.

Besides the SMT and press-in versions introduced earlier, D-sub male and female multipoint connectors with high-current contacts are now available in the 7W2 configuration as well. Configuration possibilities include 5W5 and 9W4 versions or other alternatives. For the first time, the power contacts are punched parts using SMT technology. The surface is silver-plated. Signal contacts can be partially assembled at no additional charge.

The new D-sub power connectors are available in the standard mounting height (7.3 mm) in accordance with DIN 41652 and CECC 75301-802. The nominal current is specified at 25 A (at 20° C) for the high-current contacts and 5 A (at 20° C) for the signal contacts. Beyond that, the maximum temperature limits for the application and the circuit board's technical data must be taken into account. The test voltage is rated at 1000 Veff, while creepage distances and clearances are specified at > 1 mm.

For fully automatic assembly, the new D-sub high-current connectors are delivered on SMT-compatible trays or in tape-on-reel packaging. A black insulator body facilitates simple camera recognition (reflection method) and a large pick-and-place surface enables easy and reliable pick-up with the vacuum pipette. The optimized location of the center-of-gravity in connection with the positioning pins holds the D-sub in position during the soldering process. The insulator is made of high-temperature-resistant thermoplastic and is suitable for soldering in all SMT soldering processes commonly in use. The new generation of D-sub connectors already features the lead-free surface that will be mandatory in Europe as of July 2006.

Pricing & Availability

The new D-sub power connectors are available from stock. Pricing starts at $2.00 each in volume.
