FCI's New Delta D Connectors Extend Capabilities to Reflow Process

ETTERS, PA (August 10, 2006) - FCI, a leading supplier of connectors and interconnect systems, has expanded its D-subminiature product family by introducing new reflow process-compatible, pin-in-paste connectors. The new pin-in-paste Delta D Series connectors with through-hole technology are ideal for applications like daughter boards where only a few components require wave soldering or press-fit. The extended product range will help FCI's customers reduce their total applied cost by making costly wave-soldering or press-fit operations unnecessary.

"The new D-sub connectors with pin-in-paste technology can provide cost savings up to 25 percent on the total applied cost of the application," said Sean Riley, Regional Marketing Manager for FCI. "By utilizing automated pick-and-place methods, you eliminate the requirement for manual placement of the connectors on the board, saving customers valuable time and money during assembly."

The reflow process provides higher quality soldering results than traditional wave soldering, reducing the control times and repairing costs. With a less complex connector design than Surface Mount Technology (SMT) connectors, the FCI pin-in-paste connector is the most price-competitive solution for a reflow process-compatible connector, while providing the robustness associated with a through-hole solution.

The pin-in-paste connectors, all RoHS compliant, are available now in a straight version with nine to 50 positions and are offered in a number of packages compatible with existing customer processes - manual positioning, automatic pick-and-place with vacuum nozzle, or gripper. Right angle versions will be offered by the end of the year.

Samples are available for delivery, with production lead times from stock to six weeks. Pricing for a 15-pin receptacle is $2.29 at 100 pieces.
