Cybertrust UniCERT to Offer Complete Digital Certificate Management in Microsoft Environments

Customers Benefit from Simplified Certificate Provisioning Process with Auto- Enrollment Capability

HERNDON, Va., Dec. 6 / -- Driven by the market's need for strong authentication solutions, Cybertrust(R), the global information security specialist, today announced the addition of autoenrollment capabilities to its UniCERT(R) PKI software. The new UniCERT Autoenrollment Handler fully supports certificate management in Microsoft environments and allows Cybertrust customers to fully or partially automate the process of requesting, retrieving and renewing certificates in a Windows environment.

UniCERT Autoenrollment Handler simplifies the certificate enrollment process by allowing the Windows administrator to specify which users and devices require certificates. As a result, the process of obtaining certificates becomes almost invisible to the user. In addition, UniCERT can be used to issue certificates to multiple Windows domains and to users outside those domains. This provides significant savings to UniCERT customers, who only have to operate a single PKI.

Ian Williams, senior analyst at Datamonitor said, "PKI is a great technology for meeting a number of security needs, because from a single solution you can get strong authentication, encryption and non-repudiation. However, in the past PKI has been notoriously difficult to manage with an often complex certificate issuance, retrieval and revocation process. By automating much of this process by enabling autoenrollment, UniCERT customers can dramatically simplify the certificate issuance and management process."

UniCERT is used by customers around the world as a mission critical system, applying the same safeguards that exist for physical business to the electronic world. Leveraging public key cryptography in an enterprise- or community-wide security infrastructure, UniCERT provides a comprehensive trust environment for any electronic communication or transaction.

With the addition of the Autoenrollment Handler, UniCERT now automatically issues all the certificates used within the Microsoft Windows domain. Windows supports the use of certificates for smart card log-on, EFS (Encrypting File System) and Domain Controllers, as well as certificates for popular public key enabled applications such as browsers using SSL, e-mail using S/MIME and VPNs. Cybertrust customers can benefit from these enhancements by using UniCERT in house, or by using a managed PKI service based on UniCERT.

"As organizations struggle to resolve the issue of access control and confront rising incidents of electronic fraud, digital certificates have emerged as a leading technology for establishing a framework for trusted and secure communications over IP Networks," stated Stijn Bijnens, Cybertrust senior vice president, identity management. "From the smallest PKI deployment to installations that span the globe and encompass millions of users on diverse platforms, UniCERT has a proven track record and has emerged as the cornerstone of successful e-business initiatives around the world. With the addition of support for the Microsoft autoenrollment mechanism, Cybertrust continues its commitment to ensuring that enterprises have the proven e- security controls they need to facilitate e-business securely."

UniCERT is sold both as a PKI product and offered as part of Cybertrust's managed PKI services, driven by strong momentum in energy, finance, government, healthcare and telecommunications industries. With demonstrable success addressing the problems of interoperability and differing languages, government regulations and standards, UniCERT has experienced rapid adoption by multinational organizations and enterprises around the world.
