Phihong Offers Power Supplies with Integrated PoE

Custom solutions allow field-upgradeable Power over Ethernet for IP switches.

FREMONT, Calif. (October 7, 2004) - Phihong, the global leader in low cost power supplies, now offers custom power supply solutions that enable ethernet switches and blades to be field-upgradeable to Power over Ethernet (PoE). Phihong's customized PoE integrated power supplies include power management, AC or DC disconnect, and system programming and monitoring capabilities. The ability to add both AC and DC input is particularly important for UPS function for IP phone systems.

"Field-upgradeable solutions are very unusual in the market today," said Keith Hopwood, Vice President of Marketing for Phihong USA. "Our custom solutions allow Switch and Blade manufacturers to design products that can be sold at competitive prices and field upgraded with PoE when this becomes required."

Phihong's custom power supplies with integrated PoE typically range from 6 to 48 ports with 200W to 500W power supplies, and 1.5kV output isolation. Other common features include AC and DC input, isolated 12V switch power, I2C interface and "pluggable" options.

In addition to the custom power supplies with integrated PoE, Phihong offers standard PoE solutions, including a PoE single-port injector and a PoE DIMM-based networking switch solution.

Phihong is a member of University of New Hampshire Interoperability Lab (IOL). All Phihong PoE products are evaluated for interoperability and compliance to IEEE802.3a standard by the IOL. Products are also validated for maintaining data integrity for 10/100baseT or required Gigabit data rates.

Phihong works directly with OEMs in designing custom power supplies with integrated PoE. Depending on specification, pricing of power can be as low as $0.10 per watt and PoE injection as low as $1.50 per port for 48-port systems.
