Current Monitor for High Currents and Fast Risetimes

Ion Physics Corporation introduces its new Wide Band Current Monitor which combines the ability to measure high currents with a very fast risetime and using an inner diameter of 3.2 cm.

Measuring currents approaching 50 kA requires monitors with a relatively low V/A rating and a monitor opening of 1" or more. Unfortunately, low V/A ratings and large inner diameters make it difficult to obtain fast rise-times. IPC has overcome these short-comings in its new model: CM-1-MGS5. This monitor has a risetime of 20 nanoseconds and a 3 dB bandwidth which extends from 0.7Hz to 25 MHz. Its Sensitivity (V/A ratio) is 10mV/A and its AC saturation (Ipeak/f) is 5 As.

The IPC Current Transformer monitors AC and pulse currents without physically contacting the conductor, thus eliminating ground-loops and interference noise. Electrostatically shielded, the IPC Current Monitor Model CM-MGS5 provides an output voltage that is equal to the current times the sensitivity i.e. for a peak current of 10 kA the monitor will display a 100 volt signal.

The IPC Current Monitor CM-1-MGS5 is priced at $430.00. Literature is available upon request.
