High-stability, Low-cost 5 x 3.2 TCXO Enhances Tracking of GPS Signals

C-MAC MicroTechnology launches range of miniature, low-cost, RoHS compliant TCXOs offering frequency stability of ±0.5 parts per million over the -40° to +85°C temperature range. Packaged as a standard 5 x 3.2 mm SMD, the new CFPT-127 offers a range of output frequencies between 16.32 and 33.6 MHz.

September, 2006, Durham, NC - C-MAC MicroTechnology has launched a range of miniature, low-cost, RoHS compliant TCXOs (temperature compensated crystal oscillators) offering frequency stability of ±0.5 parts per million over the -40° to +85°C temperature range. Packaged as a standard 5 x 3.2 mm SMD, the new CFPT-127 offers a range of output frequencies between 16.32 and 33.6 MHz.

The CFPT-127 has been designed specifically for GPS equipment, providing a DC-coupled clipped sinewave output at standard frequencies of 16.32, 16.8, 19.2, 24.5535, 26.0 and 33.6 MHz. Drawing just 2 mA (typical) from a 3 V supply, its low power requirement and tiny 5 x 3.2 mm package size make it ideal for use in handheld and portable receivers, while its ±0.5 ppm temperature stability imparts high sensitivity in detecting and tracking weak signals. In this way, a tiny low-cost component enhances both the performance and the battery life of GPS systems.

The CFPT-127 is supplied on standard tape and reel and supports lead-free reflow soldering at 260°C. Typical ageing over the first year is ±1 ppm at 25°C.

"GPS technology is fast moving into the mainstream, not least in mobile handsets and automotive satellite navigation systems," said Mary Carbin, Business Development Manager - Frequency Control Products with C-MAC MicroTechnology. "This means that each system component must be competitive in every respect. Among GPS timing devices, the CFPT-127 represents the best combination of performance enhancing stability, compact design, low price and efficient delivery."
