Crosslinked, Polyolefin Foams suit gasketing applications.

Press Release Summary:

Tough enough to suit low profile mounting applications, Volara HPT foams can also replace screws, rivets, and pumpable (caulk) adhesives in various assembly applications. Roll lengths of 4,500 ft can be produced without gauge banding, resulting in fewer roll changes for converters. HPT foams range in thickness from 0.012 to 0.075 in., and densities range from 8 to 20 lbs/ft³. Standard widths are 56 and 60 in., with custom widths available.

Voltek Introduces New Volara HPT High-Performance Crosslinked Foam

LAWRENCE, MA (May 3, 2002) - VOLTEK, Division of Sekisui America Corporation, has introduced a new line of high-performance radiation, crosslinked, polyolefin foams. The Volara HPT foams rely on advanced extrusion, crosslinking and foaming processes to achieve the tightest gauge and density control in the industry. At 0.012 inches, Volara HPT is the thinnest crosslinked foam manufactured in North America.

The extreme toughness of Volara HPT foams makes them ideal for low profile mounting applications, such as mirrors, emblems and appliques. Thicker HPT foams can replace screws, rivets, pumpable (caulk) adhesives, as well as more costly urethane and acrylic foams, in a variety of assembly applications. Other uses include manufacturing of electro medical devices, transdermal drug delivery and gasketing.

Precise thickness control means that roll lengths of 4,500 feet can be produced without gauge banding. The result is fewer roll changes for converters and a better match to release liner roll lengths. Absence of gauge bands also eliminates puddling of adhesives during direct coating processes.

Low gauge variation allows manufacturers of flexographic cushion mount tapes, who employ a secondary converting process, to reduce process time and scrap. Additional savings can be realized if more than one thickness is produced. For example, it is common practice to purchase thick foam that is then converted to produce two mounting tapes of different thickness (i.e., 0.0017 inches and 0.0022 inches). With Volara HPT, a thinner, less expensive grade can be purchased for making a thinner end product.

The HPT line ranges in thickness from 0.012 to 0.075 inches. Densities are available from eight to twenty pounds per cubic foot. Standard widths are 56 and 60 inches, and custom widths are available. HPT rolls are packaged for ease of handling and to eliminate damage during shipment. HPT foams are available in standard and custom colors.
