New Crimp Quality Monitor Facilitates In-Process Crimp Height Measurement

HARRISBURG, Pa. - April 13, 2005 - Implementing patented technology, the new AMP CQM Crimp Quality Monitor from Tyco Electronics measures crimp height and crimp force to provide non-destructive testing of every crimped terminal to audit level with no impact on production throughput. A compact package with full touch-screen control and comprehensive data display makes the CQM a convenient tool for monitoring crimp height and crimp force so as to meet Six-sigma and other statistical quality protocols. The CQM mounts conveniently on many of Tyco Electronics' terminators and other crimping systems.

Crimp height measurement has become a standard for crimp quality. It essentially compares the finished crimp with the designed-in characteristics, and in conjunction with measurement of crimp force, it is able to detect variations from sources such as missing strands, cut wires, and short brush. Competing methods, such as pull testing, may not detect these anomalies. Pull testing to a non-destructive level may still have an impact on the life of the termination. Calibration of the CQM is quick and easy, requiring only a short "learning" run of only a few terminals.

Human factors in the CQM help managers and operators maintain and monitor quality. The touch-screen display with context-sensitive menu structure and go/no-go indication controls operation. Displays include statistical graphs, run data, and parts library selection. Full network access to production and quality data in real time allows tracking of tool performance and provides effective production control. Supported languages for menus and data include English, Spanish, Italian, German, Chinese, and French.

The CQM is priced at $3,600.00. Lead times are typically 5 days.
