Original Press Release:

Inova Launches 1 GHz CompactPCI PIII CPU Board

HYANNIS, MA., March 22, 2002 - Inova Computers, Inc. introduces a powerful 3U CompactPCI Pentium III board that offers scalable CPU performance, high-performance graphics with a wide range of
multimedia functionality (like MPEG-2 hardware decoding), and rich controller functionality, all in the small 3U CompactPCI form factor and available with processor speeds up to 1 GHz.

Applications include: Embedded Systems, Robotics, Environmental Management, Energy Management, Industrial Control and Automation, Traffic and Transportation, Multiprocessing Environments.

The ICP-PIII is a high-performance 3U CompactPCI single-board Socket 370-based universal CPU that addresses the needs of a wide range of industrial embedded/OEM applications. The powerhouse in any application, Inova's 3U CompactPCI CPU is packed with a feature set unheard of on such a small scale.
With up to 256MByte on-board BIOS controlled ECC SDRAM, the ICP-PIII suits the demands placed by modem operating systems. In addition, performance scalability is assured through the broad selection of (mobile) Intel Pentium III and Celeron BGA and FC-PGA devices.

Although the CPU measures just 160mm by 100mm, it is fabricated using the latest 12-layer PCB technology, and with more than 4800 PCB links and 6550 solder points, the ICP-PIII is truly a miracle of engineering achievement. Conforming to the latest PICMG CompactPCI specifications, the ICP-PIII has a colorful feature set of rear I/O options, supports basic hot-swap and provides support on all three major serial networking levels that include Fast Ethernet, FireWire and USB. To enable so much functionality to exist in such a small footprint, the ICP-PIII is able to host either front or rear I/O, or even both. Implementing the latest Intel chipsets and processors available for the embedded market, the ICP-PIII is adequately equipped to provide support for all major operating systems and off-the-shelf application software.

Inova's newest CPU product is equipped with ATI's new Radeon-VE graphics controller, which offers excellent multimedia capabilities while consuming very low power. The Radeon-VE's MPEG-2 hardware decoding barely uses 25% CPU power when playing DVD-quality video streams.

The CPU power is scalable and therefore can fit various applications, and it uses low power consumption, which leads to high MTBF values and fan-free systems. Inova has developed a special cooling solution enabling this 1 GHz Pentium III board, including fan, to be only 4HP wide.

The robust design with very low radiation figures conforms to critical emission standards; and the design supports extended temperature ranges (from -40° to +850 C), as well as shock and vibration resistance.

Inova is able to certify complete systems - also multiprocessing powered - based on the ICP-PIII for EN50155 (railway) or other harsh environmental specifications.

The ICP-PIII features a wide range of functions: 2x Ethernet, 2x FireWire, 2x USB, 256MB of SDRAM (base memory including ECC), keyboard, mouse, 2x COM, watchdog functions and modular extension
possibilities, such as SDRAM, Flash, DVI, GigaSTaR, etc.

This board is a member of the function- and pin-compatible Inova CPU family, allowing modular scalability in performance and I/O extensions.

Besides the standard analog interface, the Inova PIII board may be equipped with DVI-(PanelLink) or GigaSTaR-interface modules. GigaSTaR's unique capabilities, i.e., transmitting over an extremely long distance, multiple repeating and DC-decoupling without disturbances, combined with Inova's display receiver/repeater technology, offers replacement for PanelPC and RemotePC solutions.

Distances from 50 to 100 meters can be achieved with cost-saving copper cable (CAT5 below 35m, GORE cables up to 100m), up to 500 meters with fibre-optic solutions.

The Inova PIII CPU offers almost unlimited possibilities regarding variety of use, while scalability of costs provide excellent capabilities for price/performance adjustments.
