Original Press Release:

Kontron Introduces the First PC/104 CPU Board With Full E2 Compliance

Finally, complete security at a harsh -40°C to +85°C

Deggendorf, Germany, March 21, 2005. Thanks to a 120 MHz STPC Atlas(TM)processor, Kontron Embedded Modules' new CPU board T-MOPSlcdSA offers, for the first time ever, full E2 compliance for PC/104 CPU assemblies. To date, competitors' E2 specifications only been tested for system failure through accelerated life, not by having only E2 compliant components. Kontron believes that this doesn't offer the customer enough guarantees so all components on Kontron's TMOPSlcdSA are E2 compliant, which ensures the board's stability at -40°C to +85°C. Furthermore, the low-power board has an extremely robust design. Active ventilation is not required; all elements are firmly soldered and the shock and vibration resistant chip-disk is located in a lockable retainer.

Besides the robust E2 construction, the highly integrated PC/104 CPU assembly T-MOPSlcdSA offers one Fast Ethernet and two USB ports, one parallel and two serial ports, as well as keyboard, PS/2 mouse and CRT interfaces. 32 MB soldered SDRAM offers adequate, economical and future-proof RAM. An IDE hard drive and a floppy disk controller, as well as an optional JIPA panel adapter (for STN, DSTN, TFT panels) round out the feature set. JIPA automatically recognizes which display is connected and independently sets all video parameters, which simplifies the connection significantly.

The graphics controller with 4 MB VRAM UMA is integrated into the processor and offers SVGA support as well as numerous development tools for high-resolution graphics and video functions. Compatible with all common Internet standards, such as browsers and accompanying plug-ins, the assembly is also ideal for use in multimedia applications.

Software support
Software support is offered for Windows CE, Linux, VxWorks, Windows 98, and DOS, among others. LanBoot and DarkBoot, as well as Watchdog and real-time clock are supported in all variants.

Sample boards are available immediately, while serial production will begin in Q2.

MOPS PC/104 product family
Currently offering 24 CPU assemblies, the MOPS PC/104 product family is the world's largest, demand-oriented, scalable product line in the embedded PC/104 world, ranging from 386 processors to the Intel® Pentium® M processor. MOPS PC/104 is the "proven PC platform for instant solutions". All MOPS modules are distinguished by the same pinout for keyboard, COM1 and COM2 and 44-pin IDE, LPT and LAN1. These standardized characteristics simplify upgrades within the Kontron MOPS PC/104 product family. The simple connection of displays to the assemblies takes place via the JILI or JIPA interface which automatically recognizes which display is connected, and independently sets all video parameters. Thus, all MOPS PC/104 are Plug&Work-capable, which significantly shortens the time to market.

The certified I/O partner program
In order to be able to offer OEM customers an even faster time to market, Kontron introduced the "Certified I/O Partner Program" for manufacturers of PC/104 I/O assemblies at the beginning of 2002. The object of the program and the seal of quality for PC/104 is the function certification of PC/104 I/O modules for MOPS PC/104 CPU assemblies.

Among the current Certified I/O program partners are companies such as RadiSys, Diamond Systems, Applicom International, nbn, Plug-In, Vitec Multimedia, Servo Halbeck and DResearch Digital Media Systems GmbH. Available PC/104 expansion cards include digital and analog I/O, serial interfaces, industrial Ethernet, various field buses and Framegrabber cards, to name just a few. All multi-vendor bundles have been tested for their Plug&Work functionality, which significantly reduces development costs and considerably shortens the time-to-market. Other manufacturers are invited to participate in the Certified I/O partner program with their PC/104 I/O assemblies.
