Davis-Standard Advances Cosmetic Tube System Technology
(Pawcatuck, Conn.)--Enhancements to Davis-Standard's mono- and multi-layer cosmetic tubing systems have increased processing efficiency and accuracy. New high-speed peripheral cutting technology and developments in sleeve diameter capacity and die head performance have added significant value to this widely-used product line for manufacturing cosmetic sleeves. These advancements have resulted in recent sales in Europe and Thailand.
Of special interest is the new cutting technology, which significantly improves the quality of the finished sleeve and subsequent tube processes. The cutter slices the tube by making a small nick around the circumference of the sleeve at 1,500 rpm, parting the sleeve with a clean finish. This cutting method is advantageous because the sleeve is not prone to creasing, which is common on thin wall, large diameter flexible tubes cut with conventional rotary-type cutters. Additionally, the finished cut face is exactly 90 degrees square because the cutting head moves during an extrusion cut cycle at a rate of 120 cuts per minute.
Sleeve diameter capacity for the systems has been increased to 60mm due to a requirement from a customer in Thailand, adding to functionality. Attention has been given to improving die head performance for mono-layer processes utilizing Davis-Standard's established five, three and two-layer technology. Heat calibration has also been added to the sleeves. These improvements will further enhance Davis-Standard's position as a lead supplier of high-quality cosmetic tube lines.
A typical Davis-Standard multi-layer cosmetic tube line is comprised of a 60mm extruder, two 32mm extruders, multi-layer die head and tooling, dual vacuum, dual heat water tank, haul-off and high-speed peripheral cutter. Up to five 32mm extruders can be integrated depending on application. Options include Davis-Standard's Mesa Pack Pro control system, and laser gauge
O/D and ultrasonic wall measurement.
