Corning Cable Systems to Highlight Innovation in All-Fiber Access Network Solutions at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2009

HICKORY, N.C. - Corning Cable Systems LLC, part of Corning Incorporated's (NYSE:GLW) Telecommunications segment, will feature its new, innovative Evolant® Solutions for All-Fiber Access Networks (AFANs) through exhibits and hands-on demonstrations at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2009, Oct. 28-30 in Denver.

Innovations in deployment technologies combined with an evolutionary new outside plant solution set, enable multiple system operators (MSOs) to create all-fiber access networks at a cost comparable to hybrid-fiber coax (HFC). Reliable, scalable, next-generation bandwidth is now possible with the traditional look and feel of cable television networks.

In its newly-designed environmental exhibit (booth #3073), Corning Cable Systems will display the new segmented-split topology, following the passive optical path from the headend to the subscriber. The new AFAN solution will showcase:

o The new OptiTect® Compact Local Convergence Point Housing, which is the primary connection point between the trunk and distribution cables, providing access to each customer and housing both splitters and WDM devices. This solution provides connectivity for up to 128 subscribers and will be shown in both aerial and low-profile pedestal applications.

o The new OptiSheath® UltraNAP(TM) Branch-Connected Terminal works with the FlexNAP(TM) Terminal Distribution System to maximize capital deferment opportunities by reducing road crossings and making the outside plant modular for AFANs.

o The new OptiSheath UltraNAP Series-Connected Terminal also works with the FlexNAP System and allows users to daisy-chain up to three terminals together, all fed from one OptiTip(TM) Multi-fiber Connector. This provides shorter distribution cable lengths and is ideal for cul-de-sacs or small areas not easily reached by the primary distribution cable.

o The FlexNAP Terminal Distribution System is a cost-effective method of deploying optical fiber in outside plant distribution networks at speeds significantly faster than traditional field installations. Compatible with both aerial and below-ground applications, the cable and network access points are tested and shipped as a complete distribution cable/terminal system.

Visitors will also be able to see demonstrations of the OptiSplice® Fusion Splicer product family and the new FuseFlex(TM) Termination System, which features a "near zero-length" pigtail. The stub fiber installed in the FuseFlex Termination System connector is polished in the factory, which eliminates the need for field polishing, increases the quality of the termination and greatly reduces connector installation time.
