Coriolis Mass Flowmeter suits processing applications.

Press Release Summary:

TrioMass FCM2000 delivers simultaneous measurement of mass flow rate, process density, and process temperature. With temperature-compensated meter housing and process tubing, it provides digital signal processing and simplified configuration of multiple applications. Local meter readouts consist of 2 x 16 dot matrix backlit LCD. Meter sizes of up to 6 in. pipe provide measurable mass flow rates from 100-24,000 lb/min. Densities are 0.5-3.5 kg/l.

ABB Introduces New Coriolis Mass Flowmeter for Industrial Processing Applications in the U.S.

WARMINSTER, PA, June 2004--ABB, Instrumentation has launched the new FCM2000 Coriolis mass flowmeter into the U.S. market, targeting liquid flow applications in the chemical, food and beverage, refining, and petroleum industries. After 18 months of successful sales in Europe, the FCM2000, nicknamed "TrioMass," series flowmeter, offers the simultaneous measurement of mass flowrate, process density, and process temperature is achieved using state of the art technology. The FCM2000 Coriolis flow meters will bring added value to end user process streams relying on technology and option choices highlighted below:

o Multiple accuracy classifications for both rate and density measurements to are offered to match process requirements without added burden of additional costs.

o Temperature compensation for both the meter housing and process tubing is employed to insure reliable start-up and batch processing.

o Using a common set of electronic components for all meter versions simplifies personnel training and reduces maintenance costs.

o The compact size of the TrioMass Series allows easy installation with reduced space requirements.

o Availability of meters to 6-inch pipe size extends the benefits of using Coriolis technology at higher flowrates with more accurate results.

In addition, the new mass flowmeter provides sophisticated digital signal processing (DSP) and a simple way to configure multiple applications.

DSP employs advanced filtering techniques to detect weak flow signals and minimize effects of pipeline vibration and interferences. DSP technology analyzes and filters any interfering signals to provide stable, reliable measurements.

To simplify setup for multiple applications, an external plug-in EEPROM stores configuration parameters. All configuration parameters and calibration data are automatically downloaded to the flowmeter when the power is re-applied. A PC connection can quickly upload and download meter configurations, saving valuable time compared to manual entry.

Local meter readouts consist of a 2 x 16 dot matrix backlit liquid crystal display. These displays can indicate values for mass or volume flow rate, percent of maximum flow, flowrates in bar graph form, temperature, density, forward or reverse totalization, meter tube frequency, driver current, and sensor amplitude.

Two configurable current outputs provide values for flowrate, density, and temperature, pulse and frequency outputs are available for external totalization. The HART protocol constitutes the initial digital communications available. FOUNDATION Fieldbus and PROFIBUS options are in development and will be added soon.

Meter sizes range from x to 6-inch pipe, providing measurable mass flow rates from 45 kg/minute (100 lbs/minute) to 11,000 kg/minute (24,000 lbs/minute). Measurable densities range from 0.5 to 3.5 kg/l), while accuracies may run from ±0.15% to ±0.4% of rate, depending on user requirements. The flowmeters can be self-draining in both horizontal and vertical orientations.
