Coral8 Launches Coral8 Engine Version 4.4 - Industry's First CEP Platform Featuring Native XML Support

New Release Offers Plug-n-Play Integration with SOA and Web Services

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Sept. 18 -- Coral8, Inc., a leading provider of Complex Event Processing (CEP) software, today announced the availability of the Coral8 Engine Version 4.4, which contains powerful new features for native XML processing. This functionality makes Coral8's industry-leading software the first CEP engine to offer a complete set of native XML functions for consuming, processing and publishing high-speed XML data streams. Coral8's extensive XML support enables a new wave of real-time applications that take advantage of Enterprise Service Buses (ESBs), Service- Oriented Architectures (SOAs) and Web Services investments made by software developers and corporate IT organizations.

The Coral8 Engine now offers powerful features that allow programmers to deliver high-performance CEP applications for the fast-growing number of high- volume XML-based data streams:

-- Consume -- Complete suite of adapters and Coral8 Continuous Computation Language (CCL) functions for receiving and de-composing XML-based data streams

-- Process -- Support for a native XML data type and advanced CCL functions for integrated processing, correlation and aggregation on XML-based data

-- Publish -- Advanced CCL functions to produce context rich XML data objects and adapters to deliver the XML data to various applications

Existing CEP Engines decompose and flatten XML data to process it. Transforming hierarchical data, such as XML, into a flattened structure adds programming complexity, while slowing performance and increasing latency at run-time. With the Coral8 Engine, a developer can operate on XML data in its native form through all processing phases -- consumption, processing, and publishing -- simplifying the programming model, and sustaining high throughput and low latency at execution time.

"As companies continue to invest in SOA, ESB and Web Services, they're adding even more complex event-driven, XML-based data sources across the enterprise," said Terry Cunningham, CEO, Coral8. "Our focus is to keep the Coral8 Engine on top of these fundamental shifts in enterprise-class data management. With new native XML support and easy SOA integration, this latest release delivers on that goal."

Standards-based Approach for Developers

The Coral8 Engine Version 4.4 continues drive Coral8's leadership position in supporting industry initiatives and industry standards to enable the highest programmer productivity, easiest integration and fastest deployment for CEP applications.

The CCL extensions for native XML processing are based on SQL/XML and XPath, enhancing CCL as the industry leading SQL-based CEP language and offering the familiar CEP environment for programmers. In addition, with XML the lingua franca for expressing data in infrastructure software and applications, the native XML functionality enables organizations to re-use data assets and programming skills.

"XML is an essential part of the data infrastructure for our mission critical healthcare applications," said Jeff Hastings, vice president, Patient Care Technology Systems. "The native XML processing of the Coral8 Engine combined with its advanced CEP functionality will allow us to deliver new products to market faster and with fewer programming resources."

Taking Advantage of SOA

The advent of SOAs, ESBs and Web services will dramatically increase the number of XML- and event-based data sources in the enterprise. The Coral8 Engine Version 4.4 functionality allows rapid integration with ESB, SOA and web services software, allowing organizations to easily extend this infrastructure into powerful CEP applications.

"Development using service-oriented techniques and infrastructure is growing rapidly and will continue to expand significantly in the next five years," said Brenda Michelson, principal, Elemental Links. "With an increasing amount of enterprise information and transactions encoded in XML, companies developing event-based applications will need to process XML-based event streams in real-time. To efficiently perform this analysis, it will be critical for CEP engines to natively process all event streams, including XML," added Michelson.

Availability

The Coral8 Engine Version 4.4 is available immediately. The fully functional Coral8 Engine can be downloaded for development and evaluation purposes free of charge at coral8.com/developers/download.html.
