Fujitsu Expands Copper Connector Offering for High-Speed Switching Applications

Sunnyvale, Calif. - April 5, 2004 - Fujitsu Components America, Inc. today announced it has expanded its high-speed copper microGiGaCN(TM) connector series by adding a vertical board-mount I/O socket. The new socket expands Fujitsu's offering of standard, copper I/O and mid-plane interconnects that comply with InfiniBand., 10G CX4 Ethernet, and 10G Fiber Channel requirements while meeting the needs of other high-speed applications. For distances less than 20m, the microGiGaCN series provides a low-cost alternative to optical fiber.

Optimized for differential signal transmission of 3.125 Gbps and above over standard, FR-4 material, the new microGiGaCN FCN-260(D) vertical socket is available in 4x and 12x versions with latches for InfiniBand applications. It is intermatable with the series' existing cable-mount plug connectors, and is available to support various pcb thicknesses from 0.062" to >0.110".

The vertical socket has a 0.75mm signal-to-ground contact pitch, a 1.5mm signal-to-signal contact pitch, and a 0.5mm SMT lead pitch. The SMT leads use a lead-free process with gold coating in place of solder.

The RoHS-compliant connector is rated at DC 30V, 0.5A (signal) and 1.0A (ground). Impedance matching is +/- 10 percent with a near end crosstalk of 4 percent or less at 50ps rise time.

The microGiGaCN series is suited for high-speed data-link/LVDS applications in datacom/telecom equipment, mid-plane high speed cabling applications, high-speed video equipment, high-speed test equipment, logic analyzers, medical instrumentation, optical modules interface applications, and other emerging high-speed applications.

Other products in the microGiGaCN series include a right-angle board-mount socket, I/O plugs in 4x and 12x versions with latches or thumbscrews, a backshell, and high-speed cable assemblies. This connector series has been adopted by InfiniBand (4x and 12x), Serial Attached SCSI (4 lane), Serial ATA-2 (4 lane), 10G Ethernet CX-4 (4 lane), and 10G Fiber Channel (4 lane and 12 lane).

The new FCN-260D vertical socket is available immediately from stock. Pricing for a 4X vertical-mount socket is $7.41 in 10K-piece quantities.Fujitsu Components America, Inc. markets and distributes electronic components throughout North, Central and South America. Products include relays, connectors, input and pointing devices, touch panels, KVM switches, and thermal printers. The company is headquartered at 250 E. Caribbean Drive, Sunnyvale, California, 94089. For product information, telephone 1-800-380-0059, email marcom@fcai.fujitsu.com, or access the company website at www.fcai.fujitsu.com.
