New Transformer Cooling System from GE Maximizes Operation of Power Transformers

ATLANTA, GEORGIA - (June 18, 2002) - Transcool, a compact and portable auxiliary transformer cooling system designed to help maximize the operation of power transformers, has been introduced by GE Power Systems.

With sophisticated heat profiling controls and multiple communications capability, the self-contained Transcool system provides a high level of transformer protection. Designed for transformers in utility and industrial markets worldwide, Transcool includes manual and automatic controls so it can be integrated into any substation operating system.

Transcool has multiple operating modes, featuring programmable, intelligent control with local and remote indication of alarms and system performance. System analysis is provided through historical event, alarm and warning condition memory storage. A horizontal cooler design with an upward airflow reduces cooler fouling and improves cooler capability.

Transcool's compact size makes the unit suitable for applications where space is limited. It can be moved with a light crane or forklift, or mounted on a trailer. Other features of the new product include real-time heat removal calculation, automatic fan and pump operation, oil temperature and phase current sensors, and a galvanized frame with stainless steel piping to resist corrosion. Heresite treatment is available for additional protection of the heat exchanger in harsh environments.

Specifications of the Transcool system include:

- 75 KW, 100 KW and 150 KW models
- Sensor for monitoring transformer oil temperature
- Software configuration utility
- GE transformer oil pump; Harley sleeve bearing design
- 208v, 230v, 460v, 3PH (1PH option)
- Two-gate valves and strainer

GE Power Systems offers a variety of components and services for transformer equipment, including oil pumps and valves, power cords, breaker compressors, rewinds and repairs, testing and analysis.
