New CNC Crysta Apex CMM Offers Higher Accuracy and Temperature Compensation for the Factory Floor

(Aurora, IL) Mitutoyo America Corporation introduce a new CNC CMM product that will be of particular interest to companies looking to merge their 3-D measuring with their manufacturing activity.

Even at temperature extremes from 60.8°F to 78.8°F (16°C to 26°), the Crysta Apex does not compromise accuracy when the standard real-time temperature compensation is applied. Temperature sensors are located on each CMM axis, while sensors monitor the part temperature. This makes the Crysta Apex ideal for use within - or adjacent to - manufacturing areas to monitor process performance quickly, accurately and routinely.

The new Crysta Apex CNC CMM utilizes Mitutoyo's proven lightweight alloy moving structure, delivering high acceleration, stability of travel and no vibration to influence measured results. The precision glass scales offer enhanced resolution of 0.0001mm (.000004"). Within its measuring range of X = 505mm (20"), Y and Z = 405mm (16"), the Crysta Apex has a specified volumetric accuracy of (1.9 + 4L/1000)µm per ISO standards.

Additional design features include a rugged, one-piece standard base for ease of installation, complete internal wiring of the probe system and simplified construction. These contribute to ease of maintenance and superior reliability. The Crysta Apex comes in three measuring envelope capacities: the 700 series, at 28" X 28" X 24"; the 900 series at 36" X 40" X 24" or 32"; and the 1200 series at 48" X 48" X 40".

The full suite of Mitutoyo measurement software is available, starting with the standard GEOWin(TM) CNC CMM measurement and tolerancing software for 3-D, general-purpose work. Extended modules include the new MCAT(TM) software system for interfacing to CAD systems plus off-line programming and SCANMeasure(TM) for continuous or discreet point analysis of surfaces and curves. Measurlink® SPC software captures and reports quality levels in real-time and offers networking capability to centralize data.
