Conveyor has anti-microbial rollers.

Press Release Summary:

Constructed of stainless steel, Easy Clean(TM) conveyor has no horizontal surfaces to collect contaminants. Rollers utilize custom compound co-polymer that inhibits spread and growth of bacteria, mold, mildew, and yeast. Anti-microbial properties stem from use of AgION silver-based additive which fights Listeria and other harmful bacteria. Rollers also offer lubricity and reduced wear. Additive is approved for food contact by EPA and FDA.

Shuttleworth Introduces Anti-Microbial Conveyor Rollers

Huntington, IN - Shuttleworth, Inc., introduces a custom compound co-polymer developed by Shuttleworth using RTP Company and AgION® anti-microbial compound. The anti-microbial compound can be used in Shuttleworth Slip-Torque conveyor (including the new Easy Clean(TM) conveyor system (designed for food processing applications) to inhibit the spread and growth of bacteria, mold, mildew, yeast and other unwanted organisms. Klaus Daenzer, Shuttleworth's Senior Plastics Engineer, states "Outbreaks of food borne illness have been making headlines, and we wanted to find a solution. We needed conveying equipment that would fight Listeria and other bacteria." Shuttleworth's first response was the new Easy Clean(TM) conveyor featuring stainless steel construction without horizontal surfaces to collect contaminants and allows fast and easy cleaning.

Daenzer began development work for special rollers for Easy Clean(TM). "We wanted rollers that offered lubricity and reduced wear along with anti-microbial capabilities. We worked with RTP on a custom compound with exact loadings of PTFE and silicone. For anti-microbial properties we relied on AgION for their silver-based additive to fight Listeria and other harmful bacteria. That additive is approved for food contact by the EPA and FDA."

A recent study by Purdue University verified the effectiveness of the Easy Clean design and the new RTP/AgION rollers in dealing with Listeria. "We found an effective and proven anti-microbial solution that provides our customers with improved security, lower sanitation costs and the benefits of the lowest line drive pressure conveying available in the industry."
