New National Instruments Modules Deliver Gigabit Ethernet to PXI Systems

NEWS RELEASE -- June 10, 2003 -- Engineers now can use National Instruments new Gigabit Ethernet or combination Gigabit Ethernet and GPIB controller modules to connect their PXI system to Gigabit Ethernet networks for increased performance.

With the NI PXI-8231 Gigabit Ethernet and NI PXI-8232 combination Gigabit Ethernet and GPIB modules, engineers can transfer files, connect to networks and view video images across a network all at a faster speed than before. Engineers can achieve transmission speeds of up to 500 Mb/s and receive speeds of up to 800 Mb/s. Gigabit Ethernet is fully compatible with existing Ethernet standards and cabling. The Gigabit Ethernet port automatically switches between 10, 100 and 1,000 Mb/s modes, depending on the network capability, as the boards are fully compatible with 10BaseT and 100BaseTX networks. The Auto-MDI feature of the modules auto-detects whether the cable is a straight through or crossover Ethernet cable and can use either cable type.

The NI PXI-8231 and NI PXI-8232 modules integrate with all PXI hardware products and a variety of software, including NI LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, Measurement Studio, TestStand and Switch Executive. NI ships the boards with NI-488.2 and NI-VISA application programming interfaces for Windows 2000/NT/XP/Me/9x.
