Allen-Bradley CompactLogix 1768-L43 Brings Integrated Motion and Distributed Control Capabilities to Smaller Applications

Controller combines the benefits of a SERCOS interface and EtherNet/IP with a powerful, cost-efficient processor

MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio, Feb. 9, 2006 - Performance and cost-efficiency are in perfect balance with the new Allen-Bradley CompactLogix 1768-L43 controller from Rockwell Automation. Controlling up to four axes of motion, the CompactLogix 1768-L43 controller is ideal for material handling, packaging, metal forming and other applications requiring speed, motion synchronization and information-sharing capabilities - all in a small, modular footprint.

As an addition to the Rockwell Automation Kinetix Integrated Motion offering, the new controller combines motion and sequential control into a single, integrated multitasking platform that helps users lower system costs, simplify installation and ease maintenance.

CompactLogix 1768-L43 also supports a full range of networks, including DeviceNet, ControlNet and EtherNet/IP, enabling a seamless flow of information from the smallest device up through the enterprise business system.

"We've taken the capabilities of our ControlLogix based, integrated motion control solution and made them available to customers who need these features in applications of four axes or less," said Lee Lane, Logix marketing manager, Rockwell Automation. "This enables customers to leverage all the benefits of Kinetix Integrated Motion, while cost-effectively integrating their small motion applications with the rest of the enterprise."

The CompactLogix 1768-L43 platform eliminates the need for a battery, reducing maintenance and support issues. In addition, the 1768-L43 platform supports removable CompactFlash memory that can be used as a program and firmware storage area, providing the user with the ability to archive projects that can be loaded to multiple controllers.

CompactLogix leverages the same Logix control engine, motion, networking technology and communications services as the Allen-Bradley ControlLogix and SoftLogix controllers, making it part of a complete, scalable control architecture, the Rockwell Automation Integrated Architecture. The CompactLogix 1768-L43 controller will support the 38 embedded motion instructions and pre-loaded motion parameters currently offered on the ControlLogix controllers. In addition, CompactLogix employs Rockwell Software RSLogix 5000 programming software so users can move easily from one Logix application to another with no additional program development or training.

The CompactLogix 1768-L43 controller, 1768-M04SE motion module, and 1768-ENBT EtherNet/IP module will be available and shipping March 2006. The 1768-CNB ControlNet module will be available August 2006.
