New Bench Top Continuity Tester Is Powerful, Versatile and Priced for Multiple Station Use

~ Unit quickly checks opens and shorts of IC package interconnects, cable assemblies, and small PCBs and assemblies ~

Pleasanton, CA (September 23, 2002) - ProductionLine Testers today announced the immediate availability of their new OS-32 Automated Continuity Test System. The OS-32 is a self-contained, auto programming test system that gives fast results of shorts and open circuits used to verify the integrity of IC package bond wires, bare and assembled printed circuit boards, and short cable assemblies - instantaneously. The systems' low cost and high throughput makes it an ideal tool for production test, incoming inspection, and design verification, as well as rework and repair stations.

The automated OS-32 system provides 16-bit accuracy on both the source and measurement and fast measurement switching on up to 1000 pins ensuring accurate performance and complete electrical continuity testing on all internal connections for a 100% test of all connections without the false errors typically caused by optical or X-ray inspection. The system's fast test speed (1 mSec/pin or less than 1 second per device) means it is capable of providing immediate feedback on process errors thereby increasing production throughput and reducing waste. This high speed analysis also means QA departments can perform up to 100% incoming inspection without delays, keeping the assembly line flowing.

The OS-32 is designed for the most demanding production line or test lab and provides simple installation or relocation. Operators simply plug the unit in the wall, connect the item(s) for inspection test jig, and run the automated test program to provide accurate test results within minutes of opening the box depending on the level of examination required. This facilitates on-demand testing where needed.

Further facilitating ease of use, the systems are built in small footprint rack mount enclosures measuring 11"D x 13"H x 14"W (Max 400 pins) and 20"D x 13"H x 20"W (Max 1,000 pins) leaving its compact size as an asset and not a burden in moving the system along side a bonder station, an incoming inspection table, or in a QA lab; except for plugging it in, it is a portable production tool with powerful features.

The plug-n-go unit uses the Windows 98-based operating system and has a built-in 10/100 network interface that makes networking the system a breeze for data access from the location tested to anywhere on the network or even through the Internet for quick evaluation and confirmation of quality control and better statistical process control. The OS-32's touch screen is also designed for simple operator interface, which allows a user to modify testing parameters making on-the-fly test changes quickly.

Other features include a programmable current limit source from 50 µA to 5mA that reduces damages to the test unit if a short circuit is found, programmable minimum and maximum thresholds to guarantee the highest level for quality device, and determines potential process errors.

Price and Availability

Price for the OS-32 starts at $10,000 for a 50-pin unit. A 1000-pin system with all the options tops out at $29,000. Delivery is 6-8 weeks ARO. Customers should contact the company for units that can be customized to go beyond a 1000-pin system.

About ProductionLine Testers
