Contacts offer 8 A current carrying capacity.

Press Release Summary:

Type III+ Enhanced High Current Signal Contacts are crimp style contacts suited for use in circular plastic connectors, M Series connectors, and METRIMATE connectors. Products allow engineers to package power into existing connector housings without compromising temperature rise. Contacts are copper nickel alloy and are available with gold or tin plating. Size 16 contacts are rated at 250 Vac/25 A with 30°C temperature rise when using 14 AWG wire.

New Contact Allows Higher Current Ratings

Harrisburg, PA. - June 28, 2004 -Tyco Electronics, a business segment of Tyco International, Ltd., recently introduced Type III+ Enhanced High Current Signal Contacts. Enhanced Type III+ contacts are crimp style contacts suitable for use in Tyco Electronics' circular plastic connectors (CPC), M Series connectors and METRIMATE connectors as well as certain competitive connectors. Enhanced Type III+ contacts offer significantly higher current ratings compared to standard Type III+ contacts. Compared to standard Type III+ contacts, Enhanced Type III+ contacts, offer an additional eight (8) amps of current carrying capacity for a single contact under identical testing conditions. This additional 47% of current carrying capacity allows engineers to more efficiently package power into existing connector housings without compromising temperature rise (T-rise). In some cases, Enhanced Type III+ contacts may allow engineers to use a smaller connector housing; effectively improving power density. Since in some applications engineers partially populate a connector housing due to having T-rises above 30 degrees C (the industry bench mark for connector ratings), the Enhanced Type III+ contacts may help mitigate T-rise limitations and allow more efficient, higher density designs. Power density in circular connectors can be significantly improved with Enhanced Type III+ contacts. For example, when using the standard Type III+ contacts in a 100% loaded 23-37 housing, a net current rating of 6.4 amps per contact is allowed (assuming a 30 degree C T-rise). With the Enhanced Type III+ contacts in an identical 23-37 housing, a net current rating of 8 amps per contact is possible with a 30 degree C T-rise. Enhanced Type III+ contacts are copper nickel alloy and are available with gold or tin plating. The size sixteen contacts are rated at 250 VAC / 25 amps with a 30 degree C temperature rise when using 14 AWG wire. Pricing for Enhanced Type III+ contacts is $.18 per piece at the 1,000-piece quantity level. Delivery is typically 2-4 weeks. Loose piece or strip/reel packaging is available.
