Connectors provide easy insertion and positive stop.

Press Release Summary:

Model GTC-M reverse bayonet-style connectors incorporate hard dielectric inserts, rear insertion/rear release contacts, and silicone grommets and interfacial seals. Metal clips provide positive contact retention to levels equal to MIL-C-5015. Forward movement of contacts is prohibited by solid positive stop in cavity of connector. Captivated coupling nut assembly allows un-mating without rear accessories attached. Contact sizes include 0, 4, 8, 12, 16, and 16S.

Original Press Release:

New Rear Release Connectors That Provide Easy Insertion, Positive Stop, and Secure Mating Now Available from Amphenol Industrial Operations

Sidney, NY, April 2003 - Amphenol Corporation, a global leader in interconnect systems, has introduced a series of rear-release connectors that incorporates the best features of two of its established connectors - its Reverse Bayonet and its rear release metal clip contact retention systems - to produce a new version that provides easy insertion, a positive stop when inserting contacts, and accurate, secure mating upon connection. The new GTC-M rear release connectors are ideal for applications that require heavy-duty connections, including railway, mass transit, commercial and geophysical applications.

The GTC-M is a reverse bayonet style connector that incorporates hard dielectric inserts, rear insertion/rear release contacts, silicone grommets and interfacial seals, as well as metal clip contact retention. The metal clips used in the insert provide positive contact retention to levels equal to the MIL-C-5015 series (MS345X). Gold-plated crimp contacts are inserted in the rear of the connector with considerably less force than that required with conventional connectors with neoprene inserts.

Unlike conventional connectors that do not have a positive stop to rely on when inserting contacts, forward movement of the GTC-M's contacts is prohibited by a solid positive stop in the cavity of the connector. The new connector also features a captivated coupling nut assembly that allows unmating without the rear accessories attached.

Integral to the insert is a three-web fluorinated silicone sealing grommet that provides better environmental sealing than achieved by other MIL-C-5015 connectors, and eliminates the need for costly accessory hardware. An interfacial seal with conical towers on the pin insert matches with recesses on the socket to form a "cork-and-bottle" seal during mating. The grommet and interfacial seal improve the moisture resistance capabilities of the interface area and provide satisfactory sealing during environmental extremes.

The new GTC-M Connectors are available in contact sizes of 0, 4, 8, 12, 16 and 16S. Receptacles come in a variety of shell styles, with plugs available in standard or standard with right angle elbow configurations.

The new GTC-M connectors are inter-mateable and inter-mountable with Amphenol's standard GT Series connectors, and also use standard M85049 Series rear hardware where required.

Pricing for a plug with a shell size of 18 and 19 pins starts at $36 in quantities of 50; pricing for a mating rear panel receptacle with a shell size of 18 and 19 pins starts at $42 also in quantities of 50. Delivery is 8 - 10 weeks ARO.
