FCIs Pwr Blade Connectors Distribute Power to ATCA Chassis Management Module

ETTERS, PA (June 24, 2004)-Pwr Blade® power distribution connectors from FCI® are ideal for power connections to chassis management modules used in Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA) systems. These modules, capable of supporting up to 16 board slots in ATCA shelves, are available to telecom equipment manufacturers seeking carrier-grade, standards-based, high-availability solutions based on the PICMG 3.x series of specifications.

The rear power connector on the chassis management module can be a right-angle Pwr Blade header similar to those used for Server System Infrastructure (SSI) applications. FCI part number 51939-041 is one such connector. Pwr Blade receptacles provide options for vertical or coplanar mating of the chassis management module. The vertical receptacle (part number 57940-030) is the mating connector for use on a backplane. Coplanar mating can be accomplished by using FCI's right-angle receptacle (part number 51416-003).

Staggered contacts at the mating interface provide sequential mating of shelf ground, then logic ground, followed by power and signals to provide "hot swap" capability. Molded guide posts on the header engage with the corresponding receptacle connector to provide alignment during blind-mating.

Typical prices are $4.10 per mated connector set for 25,000 piece order quantities. Samples are available for delivery, with production lead times from stock to 6 weeks.

Pwr Blade connectors are also available in wide variety of other configurations with either solder or press-fit board termination. Connectors can be provided with one to 20 power contacts and zero to 148 signal contacts. Capability for two levels of sequential mating for power contacts and two levels for signal contacts can support up to three levels of sequencing of power and signals.
