Emerson Introduces New Rosemount Analytical Flow-Through Conductivity Sensor

Flexibility makes the Model 242 customizable and cost effective

IRVINE, Calif., September 26, 2002 - Emerson Process Management has begun shipping the new Rosemount Analytical Model 242 flow-through toroidal conductivity sensor, which offers a number of combinations of features to meet specific customer needs. Engineered specifically for the needs of customers in the chemical, pulp and paper, and metal and mining industries, the Model 242 is ideal for use in viscous, abrasive and fibrous solutions. Reliability is built into this long-lasting sensor. It is easy to install and, with a number of different standard options, it offers a great deal of flexibility in terms of size, features, materials and configurations.

Customizable To Meet Process-specific Needs

Many sensors today require that the customer buy a specific group of instruments they may not need in order to get particular features they do need. The Model 242 lets users choose the features they need and none they don't need

o Configurable in hundreds of combinations to meet customer needs

o Compatible with both ANSI and DIN

o Offers pipeline sizes of one through four inches as well as 25 through 100 millimeters so it will fit in any user's process

o Customers can choose from a number of materials for contact rings, O-rings, process connection flanges and liners, making the Model 242 customizable to a wide range of applications. For example, liners are available in Teflon, glass-filled Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and, upon request, Alumina to best fit the needs of a variety of process industries.

o The conductivity measurement range of the Model 242 sensor is from 100 microSiemen up to two Siemen per centimeter. Since the Model 242 covers this entire measurement range, the customer does not have to specify and purchase either a high-range or low-range sensor.

Saves Time and Money and Easy To Use

The Model 242 has replaceable parts, is easy to install, comes fully stocked with all necessary parts and offers in-line calibration, saving the user time and money while also being uncomplicated to manage.

o All wetted parts can be replaced, reducing costs by not having to buy a whole new sensor if the O-rings or the liner deteriorate

o It is easier to install the Model 242 since it has recessed bolts that hold the sensor together, keeping all internal parts in perfect alignment while it is mounted in the process

o In-line calibration reduces labor and downtime and is easy to do

o The Model 242 offers a unique temperature compensation feature that measures temperature at the same point as the conductivity measurements, ensuring accurate readings, so there is no need to purchase a separate thermowell

o An included junction box protects internal wiring so the Model 242 won't need to be replaced for years

"We've been in the liquid analysis business for nearly 40 years and we've learned what users need and want in a sensor - and from that, the Model 242 was built," said John Wright, vice president of marketing, Emerson Process Management, Rosemount Analytical, Liquid Division. "The Model 242 is flexible enough to meet the exacting needs and standards of our customers so that their specific process demands are met."

The Model 242 flow-through conductivity sensor is compatible with Models 54eC, 1055, 3081T and 4081T analyzers.
