Concentrates yield color shifts as viewing angle changes.

Press Release Summary:

ColorMorph(TM) custom-formulated color concentrates enable manufacturers of packaging for beauty products to achieve color-shift effects. By specially orienting color in thin PET sheet, such as those used for clear boxes, it is possible to produce box that is opaque (with printing visible) and transparent (with contents visible), depending on viewing angle. Concentrates are suited for monolayer bottles, tubes, and boxes made from transparent resin typically used in packaging.

New Type of Concentrate Yields Shimmering, Dramatically Shifting Colors as Containers are Viewed from Different Angles

Iridescent, Often Widely Changing Colors from ColorMorph(TM) Concentrates Create 'a Visual Dynamic that Commands the Attention of Cosmetic and Beauty Aid Shoppers'

NEW YORK, September 18, 2007: New custom-formulated concentrates from Teknor Color Company enable manufacturers of packaging for beauty products to achieve dramatic color-shift effects that create a lustrous, active presence on the retail shelf, the company announced today at HBA Global Expo (Booth 1478).

ColorMorph(TM) concentrates, made possible by new types of raw materials and innovations in manufacture, yield far more distinct color shifts as viewing angle changes than are available with conventional "color-variable" concentrates, according to Meritt M. Siers-Foster, the senior chemist who led the development of the technology. "Instead of the often subtle effects achievable thus far, ColorMorph concentrates make possible packaging whose colors may well travel from one end of the spectrum to the other as shoppers move along the retail shelf," Siers-Foster said. "The result is shelf appeal that is literally active-a visual dynamic that commands the attention of cosmetic and beauty aid shoppers and creates a sense of luxury."

Siers-Foster cited two among many special effects achievable with ColorMorph concentrates:

o Now Gold, Now Bright Red. As viewing angle shifts, so does coloration, literally changing from one distinct hue to the other.

o Now Transparent, Now Opaque. By specially orienting the color in thin PET sheet such as that used for clear boxes, it is possible to produce a box that is both opaque (with printing visible), and transparent (with contents visible), depending on viewing angle.

Teknor Color recommends ColorMorph concentrates for monolayer bottles, tubes, boxes, and other containers made from any transparent resin typically used in packaging, including polyolefins, styrenics, polycarbonate, and PET; and in thin outer layers of multi-layer containers. The concentrates cannot produce their effects when combined with filled and other opaque resins.
