GE Launches Computed Radiography Scanner for Weld Inspections
New CRxVision Scanner Delivers Convenient Table Top Scanning for All Types of Flexible Phosphor Imaging Plates
WUNSTORF, Germany – GE’s (NYSE: GE) Measurement and Control business today debuted its latest innovation in Computed Radiography (CR) with its CRxVision scanner, a high throughput scanner with premium image quality. The tabletop scanner is designed to cover stringent weld inspection standards: ISO 17636-2 Class A and B, ASME, ASTM and EN, and is versatile enough to also be used for many other applications across the NDT industry.
CRxVision provides industrial customers with a flexible and productive way to increase throughput and extend plate life. The scanner reduces exposure time while providing high quality images. Key features, benefits and capabilities of the CRxVision and its compatible software include:
Extremely wide latitude eliminating the need for multiple gain settings when exposing over a wide range of thicknesses. This is the result of a 16 bit image processing at selectable 35 or 70 microns resolution.
• Equipped to scan multiple plates, side-by-side or back-to-back, resulting in high throughput: 90 plates/hr at 70 microns or 28 plates/hr at 35 microns for a 10 x 40 cm (4.5 x 17”) plate.
• Ability to scan any shape or size of imaging plate from 0.75 to 60 inches (20 to 1500 mm) in length.
• Highly flexible imaging plates that exhibit no curl after bending around small pipe diameters
• Employs a magnetic transport system. The sensitive phosphor side of the imaging plates is not touched during scanning, ensuring a long plate lifetime.
• Updated DICONDE compliant Rhythm RT software including automatic image cropping optimizing workflow efficiency.
• Light cover protects the plates from light exposure during the scan cycle allowing use in ambient light conditions.
• New, highly efficient laser optics which result in better image quality at lower radiation doses.
• Provides equal or better exposure times for welds than conventional film. Further reduction possible for erosion/corrosion applications.
• BAM certified class IP 1/40.

The new CRxVision scanner can be used in ambient light conditions and features a unique light cover that protects the plates from light exposure during scanning. The scanner is compact and portable: weight is less than 99 pounds (45kg) and footprint is 22 x 22 inches (560 x 560 mm). The unit extends to 22 x 50 inches (560 x 1280 mm) when the feed and exit trays are attached. It is designed to fit through a 23 inch (584 mm) door for mobile darkroom use.
