Composite Advantage Builds New Drop-In-Place Frp Superstructure For Eight Mile Road Bridge In Ohio

DAYTON, Ohio - (May 1, 2008) - Composite Advantage LLC (CA) has built a new drop-in-place Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composite bridge superstructure, 22 feet long by 62 feet wide, for Eight Mile Road Bridge in Hamilton County, Ohio. An industry leader in manufacturing large structural composite panels, CA developed its unique, integrated FRP bridge system to give customers faster installation times and eliminate the need for heavy equipment. Hamilton County is the first site in the US to receive CA's innovative composite bridge product.

Unlike conventional FRP decks on steel beams, CA's drop-in-place FRP bridge system is prefabricated with integral beams and deck and incorporates the entire superstructure. CA built a total of eight panels for the Hamilton County project at its manufacturing facility in Dayton, Ohio. The panels, installed on April 24, 2008, were dropped in place side by side from abutment to abutment. Installation took just one day. The new FRP bridge system is corrosion resistant, requires no maintenance and has a life cycle of 100 years. The County will pour concrete at each end and give the new deck an asphalt wearing surface.
