Press Release Summary:
VMICPCI-5800 single-slot CompactPCI-to-CompactPCI bridge makes it possible for single host controller to access devices in multiple CompactPCI chassis. Bridging requires minimum of two boards; one Master and one Slave. One master can control up to four slaves. Each individual link is 4 wire serial differential connection that provides full-duplex connection at 2.5 Gb/sec. Operating system support includes Windows NT(R), Windows® 2000, and Linux.

Adding Slots Just Got Easier! VMIC Announces Transparent CompactPCI-to-CompactPCI Bridge
Huntsville, AL (May 7, 2002). VMIC introduces the VMICPCI-5800, a single-slot CompactPCI® InfiniBand-based transparent CompactPCI-to-CompactPCI bridge. The VMICPCI-5800 makes it possible to easily extend a traditional CompactPCI system's expansion capability beyond that of a single chassis. Utilizing the VMICPCI-5800, a single host controller can transparently access other CompactPCI devices in multiple CompactPCI chassis.
Transparent PCI-to-PCI bridging requires a minimum of two VMICPCI-5800 boards; one configured as the Master and one configured as the Slave. The Master VMICPCI-5800 can control up to four 1x Slave VMICPCI-5800s or one 4x Slave VMICPCI-5800 board. The VMICPCI-5800 has four channels and supports two link speeds at the physical layer, 1x and 4x. Each individual link is a four-wire serial differential connection (two wires in each direction) that provides a full-duplex connection at 2.5 Gb/s.
VMICPCI-5800 Features:
- Enables a CompactPCI system to expand into multiple chassis
- Single-slot CompactPCI, 6U form factor
- InfiniBand ports configurable as four 1x (2.5 Gb/s) or one 4x (10 Gb/s)

-- Directly from the controlling computer (via PCI bus)
-- From EEPROM
- Communication flow control (link level and end-to-end)
- Quality of Service (QoS)
- Virtual lane credit-based flow control
- Operating system support includes Windows NT(R), Windows(R) 2000, and Linux.
