Eurocom 258 6U Compact SBC with Pentium M Processor from American ELTEC Is Optimized For Real-Time Applications

Las Vegas, NV, February 2005 - The EUROCOM 258 compact PCI module from American ELTEC is a high-performance single board computer (SBC) in double Eurocard format that offers an all-in-one module optimized for real-time applications.

Based on the Intel 855GME chip set with 400 MHz front side bus, the Eurocom 258 features a fast 1.6 GHz Pentium M processor as the CPU. When combined with the module's 1 MB L2 cache, this enables the EUROCOM 258 CPU to achieve performance comparable to that of a 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 processor, but with greatly reduced power consumption. This means that state-of-the-art Pentium CPUs can now be fitted in rack systems, since there are no large fans to obstruct the installation in compact PCI slots.

The EUROCOM 258 supports Windows 2000/XP, LINUX and VxWorks operating systems and features numerous functions designed to meet the demands of industrial applications. These include a large main memory with up to 1 Gbyte DDR RAM, a watchdog timer, and two programmable 16-bit counters.

The module is also equipped with an IDE interface with Ultra133 transfer for the hard disk connection, a floppy interface, and a 2 Kbytes non-volatile memory. The Eurocom 258 possesses all standard input/output ports for PS/2 mouse and keyboard, COM1, as well as two serial channels with hardware handshake. And, it supports two USB 2.0 interfaces, an AC97-V2.2 compatible audio interface and two 10/100base-T ports for fast communication within networks. One of the two channels is optionally available as a Gigabit Ethernet port.

The EUROCOM 258 also offers a powerful graphics configuration. The SBC uses the video controller integrated in the Intel 855GME chip set, and supports resolutions up to 1556 x 1048 pixels in true color (24 bpp). The graphics interface is compatible with the VGA standard at the hardware, register and BIOS levels. The SBC can be easily expanded using a PMC (PCI mezzanine card), such as SCSI, graphic, I/O or network cards.

Designed for low current consumption, the Eurocom 258 can be used over a temperature range from -20 °C to +50 °C at a humidity of 85 %. Its intelligent design, high performance and reliability make it is an ideal solution for industrial real-time applications.

Pricing for the Eurocom 258 starts at approximately $3,999 in single-piece quantities.
