Original Press Release:

New High Force Size 14 Non-Captive Linear Actuator

HSI is proud to introduce a "new" high force Size 14 non-captive linear actuator, the latest addition to its growing hybrid motor line. The various linear actuator options deliver unmatched capabilities, opening avenues for equipment designers who require performance and endurance in a compact package.

In the non-captive linear actuator design, the lead screw runs axially through the center of the motor and must be restrained from rotating for proper operation. This is normally accomplished by attaching the screw to a non-rotating member of the mechanical assembly. As the internal threaded rotor rotates the lead screw will move axially but will not rotate. This design is especially suited for long linear travel requirements and applications where the lead screw is secured at both ends and the motor translates along the lead screw. When incorporating the latter approach, the motor must be prevented from rotating.

Built for long life (several million cycles) and superior performance, the size 14 linear actuator features engineering thermoplastics in the rotor drive nut and a stainless steel Acme lead screw. With this patented design, quiet and maintenance free operation are ensured. This non-captive hybrid linear actuator is available in a wide variety of resolutions ranging from 0.00012" (.003048 mm) to 0.00192" (.048768 mm) per step and delivers thrusts of up to 50 lbs. (23 Kg) without compromising long life or cost.

Applications requiring precise positioning and rapid motion are best suited for this motor. Typical applications include medical equipment, X-Y Tables, automation of any kind, valve control and many more. Priced aggressively, this product is ideal for drop-in replacements to improve performance and life or for incorporation into your next project. In addition to standard configurations, HSI can custom design this motor to meet your specific application requirements.
