Lyrtech Launches Infozone (TM)--An Advanced SDR Platform for the Security and Defense Industries

Orlando (Florida, USA) and Quebec City (Canada) November 18, 2003 - Lyrtech Inc. (TSX Venture: LYT), worldwide expert in Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and Software Defined Radio (SDR) solutions, launched its InfoZone(TM) program today during the 2003 Software Defined Radio Technical Conference and Product Exposition in Orlando, Florida. InfoZone(TM) is an advanced SDR platform based on the company's expertise in DSP/FPGA-based systems capable of handling tactical communications, as a key part of a command and control system, in situations of emergency.

In support of the launch, Lyrtech will collaborate with security and defense organizations throughout the world to initiate research, development and integration of an operational system capable of handling tactical communications in a situation of emergency.

"Future emergency tactical command centers will require advanced command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) digital information systems," said Alain Marchildon, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marekting at Lyrtech. "As a solution to actual communications problems between space-based systems, ground units, maritime elements and the wide variety of airborne platforms, Lyrtech will focus on providing the industry with advanced software defined radio systems that work seamlessly with other key parts of an integrated C4ISR system."

In addition, Lyrtech will focus on developing technologies and solutions based on advanced intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR) systems in use by the world's leading defense forces. C4ISTAR research at Lyrtech will take into account the requirements dictated by NATO allies and will propose advanced communications systems based on the InfoZone(TM) platform.

Using the hardware-in-the-loop development capability of system-level tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Real-Time Workshop from The MathWorks and System Generator from Xilinx, Lyrtech's provides not only ideal rapid-prototyping and development tools, but also optimized DSP-based solutions for operational systems. As a ground-based solution, Lyrtech's will continue to develop advanced digital signal processing systems that will deliver real-time digital data and take into accounts the various requirements of integrated multiple and secure communication links.

The SignalMaster DSP-FPGA solutions proposed by Lyrtech are currently used by major advanced telecommunications (3G-4G) and SDR organizations worldwide, such as CRL-TAO-Matsushita (Japan) for the development of 4G and phased-array antenna systems, the Los Alamos National Laboratory (USA) for rapid-prototyping and the development of advanced signal analysis and geolocation technologies based on small satellite systems and many more.

The SignalMaster system uses Texas Instruments' DSP and Xilinx's Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA)-based technologies for digital signal processing, and is the only MATLAB/Simulink and Real-Time Workshop fully integrated system available for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) co-simulation and real-time implementation of system level designs. The overall principle of rapid prototyping capability is to carry out the rapid development of operational systems, with the purpose of demonstrating the rapid merging of an algorithm with hardware so as to avoid long development timelines and related costs.

About Software Defined Radio
Software Defined Radio is a collection of hardware and software technologies that enable reconfigurable system architectures for wireless networks and user terminals. SDR provides an efficient and comparatively inexpensive solution to the challenge of building multi-mode, multi-band, multi-functional wireless devices that can be adapted, updated, or enhanced by using software upgrades. As such, SDR can be considered an enabling technology that is applicable across a wide range of areas within the wireless industry. An SDR-enabled radio device is one in which the operating parameters - power, modulation and frequency - can be controlled and modified via software (residing within, or downloaded into, the device) without changing hardware components.
