Original Press Release:

Eicon Networks® Quadruples Channel Density of its Diva(TM) Server Communications Adapter

Montreal, October 20, 2005 - Eicon Networks Corporation ("Eicon"), a global leader in providing reliable communication products for networked business applications, today announced that new communications adapters to double and quadruple capacity over ISDN primary rate interfaces (PRI) are added to its Diva Server product portfolio. The new Diva Server V-2PRI/E1/T1 and V-4PRI/E1/T1 adapters enable Eicon Networks to meet the increasing demand for large scale communications platforms in the area of automated voice applications.

The Diva Server V-2PRI/E1/T1 and V-4PRI/E1/T1 adapters from Eicon Networks now make available hardware platforms that support 60 and 120 voice channels per server PCI slot. An on-board CPU along with programmed DSP resources provide the power to meet the needs of the most demanding speech processing and automated voice applications. The cards support important functions such as echo cancellation, voice activity detection (VAD) and channel switching.

Among those dependent on such platforms are, for example, large companies wanting to increase their accessibility through voice technology and IVR applications so as to improve customer satisfaction. This often requires the use of systems that must provide hundreds of simultaneous voice connections efficiently and inexpensively. The extended channel density and scalability of the new Diva Server adapters makes them ideal to create these large systems with a minimal amount of infrastructure (PCs, accessories, workplaces). A maximum of 480 channels can be integrated per PC/server with up to eight cards. Even energy requirements are reduced, with typical power consumption per card being only about 18 watts.

The hardware tests by Eicon Networks Technology Partners demonstrate the company's future success on the market: 'It is precisely in the area of application developments in the dynamic voice sector that a platform like the Diva Server definitely pays off, since it offers a uniform programming interface for all communications adapters in the product family', said Lewis Graham, Head of software development at COM plan + service GmbH. 'It was very easy for us to incorporate the new Diva Server V-2PRI and V-4PRI in our robot5 application. These high-performing cards guarantee the efficient implementation of extensive voice applications with very high quantities of calls and data - without reducing the performance of the PC/server'.

Available programming interfaces for the Diva Server adapters include CAPI and the Diva Server Software Development Kit (SDK). Features such as the function calls and the use of ready made code examples make it a quick and easy development environment for both Windows and Linux. In addition to the ISDN and QSIG digital signalling protocols, the SS7/ISUP standard will be supported to enable even larger scale hosting solutions from service providers. As well as providing high density communications for traditional telephone networks, the new communication adapters also clear the way for IP telephony. 'It is precisely the migration from classical PSTN to IP-based technology that requires reliable solutions which support both worlds to the same extent', added Franz-Josef Eberle, Senior Product Line Manager at Eicon Networks. 'The Diva Server V-2PRI/E1/T1 and V-4PRI/E1/T1, together with the new SIP-based software products from Eicon, can be used as hybrid TDM/IP communication platforms and as an SIP Gateway'.

The new Diva Server adapters are available in two different versions to cater for the needs of different Primary Rate, E1 and T1 standards and are currently being provided to Eicon Networks Technology Partners (ETP) for testing and evaluation.

The voice adapters are orderable now with commercial availability in December 2005.
