Press Release Summary:
Offering complete automation for testing properties and ions in drinking, ground, surface, and waste water, Titration/IC (ion chromatography) system increases process efficiency by determining up to 20 different parameters from one sample. All analyses on single sample are completed in 20 min while requiring seconds worth of interaction by operator. After sample testing, entire system is automatically cleaned, eliminating chance of sample carry over.

METTLER TOLEDO and Thermo Fisher Scientific Introduce Combined Titration and Ion Chromatography
METTLER TOLEDO, a world leader in precision analytical instrumentation, and Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., a world leader in serving science, have combined their knowledge and instruments to provide multiparameter water testing. The new titration and IC (ion chromatography) system offers complete automation for testing properties and ions in drinking, ground, surface and waste water. The Titration/IC system minimizes operator time and simplifies sample analyses.
The combined Titration/IC system improves efficiency by combining the determination of up to 20 different parameters from a single sample into a completely automated workflow. The titration system determines conductivity, pH value and alkalinity. The intelligent conditional capability of the titrator chooses the correct sample loop for anion analysis based on the conductivity of the sample. The IC instruments provide analysis for common anions (F-, Cl-, NO2-, etc…) and cations (Na+, NH4+, Mg2+, etc…). By combining the IC and titration results, the system can also provide results for total hardness, ion balance and carbonate hardness. All analyses on a single sample are completed in 20 minutes with only seconds of operator interaction.
After sample testing, the entire system is automatically thoroughly cleaned and rinsed, eliminating any chance of sample carry over. Thanks to the patented PowerShowerTM rinse technology on the sample changer and mechanical cleaning of the IC lines by air then deionized water, cross-contamination is completely avoided. This is crucial in the sensitive and important water analysis, as a small amount of carryover can lead to large result deviations.
The METTLER TOLEDO Liquid Handler device completely automates complex and tedious dilutions for IC standardization. Not only does the automated dilution save time during the standardization procedure, but assures accuracy in dilutions for consistent and repeatable standardizations from one operator to the next.
The IC software integrates the control and results from both instruments. The laboratory operator needs only to interact with a single software system for sample identification and combined flexible reports with all sample results.
Christian Walter, Head of the AnaChem product unit at METTLER TOLEDO is very happy about the joint activity between the two companies. He states, Providing value to our customers is our mission. With the combined titration/IC system we can simplify life for our customers in water laboratories. With One Click they can get up to 20 results. We believe that’s pretty amazing!
